UOI: Recycling and Taking Action

This week, we focused on the last “R” in the 3Rs: Recycling. The students learned that recycling means turning used materials into something new instead of throwing them away.

We discussed what kinds of materials can be recycled and why recycling is important for helping the Earth. The students are beginning to understand that their choices can make a difference, which connects to our central idea that people’s actions can help care for the planet.

To show their understanding, the students created 3R posters. Each poster shared ideas about reducing, reusing, or recycling, and how we can take care of our environment. Through this activity, the students practiced expressing their ideas and thinking about how they can take action in their daily lives.

今週は、３Rの最後である「リサイクル」について学びました。リサイクルとは、使い終わったものを新しいものに生まれ変わらせることだということを学びました。

どのようなものがリサイクルできるのか、そしてなぜそれが地球にとって大切なのかについても話し合いました。自分たちの行動が地球を守ることにつながるという考えに、少しずつ気づき始めています。

理解を深めるために、３Rポスターを作成しました。それぞれが「減らす・再利用・リサイクル」について考え、自分のアイデアを表現しました。この活動を通して、自分の考えを伝える力や、日常生活の中でできる行動について考える力を育んでいます。

Creative Play and Reuse in the Classroom

During free play time, the students have been using their creativity to make different crafts. What makes this even more meaningful is that they are using old and recycled materials, showing how we can reuse items instead of throwing them away.

The idea to create a shop role play came from the students, and since then, everyone has been busy making items for their shop. They are using their imagination to design and create different things, thinking about what they want to “sell” and how to make it.

This experience is helping to develop their creativity and independence, as they make their own choices and take ownership of their play. At the same time, it connects strongly to our UOI learning, as the students are putting the idea of “reuse” into action in a meaningful and natural way.

自由遊びとリユース

自由遊びの時間には、子どもたちが自分たちのアイデアを使って制作活動を楽しんでいます。特に、使わなくなった素材や廃材を使っていることが特徴で、「捨てるのではなく再利用する」という考えを実践しています。

お店屋さんごっこのアイデアも子どもたちから出てきたもので、今ではそれぞれが商品作りに夢中になっています。何を作るか、どのように作るかを自分で考えながら、想像力を広げています。

この活動は、創造力や自主性を育てるだけでなく、自分で考えて行動する力にもつながっています。また、UOIで学んでいる「リユース」の考えを実際の活動の中で体験的に学ぶ良い機会となっています。

Reading Together

In reading, we have been reviewing CVC words and sight words. The students are becoming more confident in recognizing and reading familiar words.

We also had opportunities for students to read in front of the class. This helped them show that they are being knowledgeable and risk-takers, as they tried something new and shared their learning with others. It was great to see them support each other and build confidence.

リーディングでは、CVCワードやサイトワードの復習を行っています。少しずつ単語を見て読めるようになり、自信もついてきています。

また、クラスの前で読む活動にも取り組みました。新しいことに挑戦する姿や、自分の力を発揮しようとする様子が見られ、学習者像の「知識のある人」「挑戦する人」としての姿が育っています。お互いに応援し合いながら、安心して発表できる雰囲気もできてきています。
