Who am I? What is culture? G5’s exploration into identity.

It has been a busy two weeks since the last post! With Golden Week coming up and shortening our classes, we are both excited and busy working on our first unit. Last weekend, on Saturday April 25th we had many parents join our morning classes and observe our current lesson. First, each student began with a short presentation on their chosen aspect of the UOI and they shared a poster they were working on. Afterwards,we conducted a lovely museum walkthrough where each student displayed their chosen items. Each item was carefully selected to show some aspect of their Japanese/Canadian/Swedish culture in the classroom. Although many of the chosen items were extremely valuable, we shared photos and descriptions of each.

To engage the parents, the parents were then asked to walk around and explore each item, items ranging from a precious photo of a annual trip to an interactive rainbow that housed information cards in each pocket that detailed the list of each item. The imagination and research of the students are endless and I was extremely proud of their hardwork.

In music we have been learning so much and when we work together, the voices are like angels. I look forward to hearing more in music and listening to the chosen Japanese songs from Ms. Misayo.

In computers, the students are learning to build from scratch using the online platform, Figuro. They began with learning the basics of the controls and have started with creating little houses and the last we left off, we were learning how to make trees. I am excited to see the digital worlds they create.

I have to apologize for my lack of photos. When I am teaching, I am engaged with each and every one of my students and sometimes forget to snap a photo or two! This will change by the next blog upload!

Until next time G5!
