INSIDE GRADE6 WORLD!

Dear Parents and friends,

It’s been exciting and action-packed months for our Grade 6 students, and we are thrilled to share all the activities we’ve experienced as part of our IB unit on How We Express Ourselves. From exploring music to creating costumes, and celebrating seasonal events, the students have truly embraced every opportunity for learning and fun!

Our main focus has been understanding how we express ourselves, particularly through music. In this unit, students learned how different cultures use music as a form of communication and self-expression. They explored a variety of musical instruments, their history, and how they are used in different parts of the world. Students also practiced playing and performing music, which was both challenging and exciting.

As part of their exploration, the students were tasked with preparing for the Performance Day. They not only learned songs but also helped in creating their own costumes, adding a personal touch to the entire experience. The performances are a way for students to showcase their talents and creativity, and it gives them an opportunity to express their understanding of music in a fun, hands-on way. We can’t wait to share the final performance with you—it’s going to be a memorable experience!

As autumn arrived, we celebrated the season with our Sweet Potato Event. This event was not only a delicious tradition but also a way for students to engage in practical life skills. They were involved in preparing and cooking the sweet potatoes, and the highlight of the day was, of course, enjoying the sweet, warm potatoes together. It was a great way for students to bond, enjoy the outdoors, and appreciate the seasonal harvest.

We had a spook-tacular time celebrating Halloween! The students put their creativity to the test with fun and unique costumes. It was wonderful to see the students express themselves in different ways through their outfits, and they had a blast participating in Halloween games and activities. The party was filled with laughter and excitement. This was an opportunity to enjoy some lighthearted fun while also promoting teamwork and community among all the students..

As part of our learning journey, the students took a trip to the Nagano City Museum. This excursion was designed to deepen their understanding of culture and history and to inspire them in their artistic explorations. The museum’s exhibits provided the students with a visual and historical context. The trip was a great chance for them to engage with real-world examples of cultural expression, sparking new ideas for their creative projects.

These months have truly been a whirlwind of activities that have allowed our Grade 6 students to grow both academically and personally. Through music, hands-on experiences, and cultural exploration, they have developed a deeper understanding of how we express ourselves in different ways. Each activity was designed to foster creativity, teamwork, and critical thinking—skills that will serve them well beyond the classroom.

Thank you to all the parents for your continued support—whether it was helping with costumes, volunteering for events, or simply encouraging your child’s creativity. We look forward to sharing even more exciting moments as we continue this journey together!

Warm regards,
