An exciting start to the new year!

The classroom is buzzing with excitement as students dive into their latest Unit of Inquiry! 🚀 Over the next few weeks, they’ll be exploring the world of famous inventors and the incredible innovations that changed how we live.

To kick things off, students learned about the Wright Brothers and their historic first flight in North Carolina. Then—because reading isn’t nearly as fun without doing—they transformed into mini engineers and inventors themselves! ✈️ Using only paper, they designed and built their own airplanes.

Each plane took to the skies for two test flights, with students carefully measuring how far their creations traveled. After that, it was back to the drawing board as they tweaked, adjusted, and improved their designs in an attempt to build the ultimate paper plane.

This hands-on challenge is the perfect launchpad for learning about aerodynamics and the principles of flight. Next up, students will investigate Thrust, Lift, Drag, and Gravity, discovering why some planes soar smoothly while others… not so much 😄.

In true IB style, this unit is all about curiosity, exploration, and self-discovery. Students are active learners who show agency, ask big questions, and take charge of their own learning journey. Who knows? We might just have a future inventor—or pilot—in the room!
