Summer School Blog Lava Fields & Movie Magic (G3-6)

It’s Week Two of Summer School, and the fun just keeps getting better!

The day blasted off with energy as Grades 3 to 6 students jumped into action—literally!
The excitement was electric as everyone joined a high-energy warmup, dancing alongside none other than Mario and Luigi! With arms flailing, feet hopping, and giggles all around, the kids twisted, turned, and leaped their way through a wacky virtual quest. They struck wild poses, dodged zany obstacles, and celebrated every time they freed a prisoner from the clutches of the game. It was part workout, part video game, and all-out fun!

Then came the ultimate challenge: The Floor is Lava!
The Skyroom transformed into a bubbling lava field, and the children had to team up to make it across safely. Using small “stones” to step on, they worked together to cross the treacherous terrain without falling in. Laughter echoed through the room as they tested their balance, encouraged their teammates, and showed off some serious problem-solving skills.

In the afternoon, it was time to cool off with a splash-tastic series of water games!
First up: Red Light, Green Light—but with a twist! As soon as “Red Light” was called, students had to freeze in place while getting sprayed with cool jets of water. It was a refreshing way to beat the summer heat!

Next came classic favorites like Kick the Can and Capture the Flag—but it didn’t stop there. Suddenly, the field turned into a water battlefield as a surprise water gun war broke out! Kids dashed across the grass, laughing and shrieking with joy, spraying wildly in an epic splash-filled finale to the day.

Day 2 kicked off with sky-high energy and eager faces all around!
Fueled by the thrill of the previous day’s lava game, the students were ready to level up their strategies and take on the challenge once more. But this time, things got serious—it was a grade-level showdown!

The Skyroom once again transformed into a bubbling lava field—hotter, scarier, and more intense than ever!
Teams had just six minutes to make it across without “melting.” But this time, the stakes were higher: if any part of a student’s body touched the lava, they’d lose that limb! One misstep, one wobble—and it was game over!

Screams of fear and excitement echoed through the room as students inched their way across the tiles. Eagle-eyed judges were on full alert, calling out every burnt finger and scorched toe. Some students hopped bravely with one leg, others balanced on knees and elbows after tragic lava mishaps.

And yet, the spirit of teamwork burned brighter than the lava itself. Students rose to the challenge, coming up with clever strategies to help their “wounded” teammates. They carried, supported, and guided one another with heroic determination.

The competition was fierce, with shouting, cheering, and last-second leaps. Everyone had to think fast, move smart, and most importantly—work together. In the end, Grade 4 rose to victory, getting the most teammates across safely with clever coordination and top-notch teamwork. Way to go, G4!

In the afternoon, adventure called—and the kids answered!
They set off on a nature walk through the forest surrounding the school, ready to explore the wild wonders just beyond the classroom walls. With eyes wide and curiosity buzzing, they observed the natural world in action—fluttering leaves, crawling bugs, and sunlight filtering through the trees like magic.

Along the trail, they turned into texture detectives, collecting rubbings of all the fascinating surfaces they could find. Tree trunks, rough bark, bumpy rocks, and mysterious patterns became their canvas. Every rubbing was like a secret imprint from nature itself—each one unique, just like the explorers who found them!

To wind down after an action-packed day, the kids kicked back in style with a cozy movie session.
The Skyroom transformed into a mini cinema as they lounged on soft pillows and fluffy rugs, completely chilled out. With popcorn in one hand and juice in the other, they settled in to watch Matilda—a classic with just the right mix of fun and adventure.

As the lights dimmed, their faces lit up with wonder, completely absorbed in the story. It was the perfect way to relax, recharge, and end the day on a comfy, feel-good note.
What a day it was—full of adventure, teamwork, and a little movie magic to top it all off!
