Community Helpers Pretend Play! 7/22-7/25

Hello everyone! We hope you had a wonderful long weekend!😊

This week, we continued to explore community helpers such as firefighters, doctors, nurses, and teachers. We looked at our photos when we visited the fire station and discussed what we learned from the firefighters. We thought of the tools they use and how they help the people in the community. Shooting Star students had so much fun making fire extinguishers. Now they are having fun playing as firefighters. They spread the fire pictures on the floor and someone says “Fire! Fire! Fire!”. Then firefighters come with the fire extinguishers to put out the fire. 🔥🧯

Shooting Star students are finally able to paint the ice cream toys they made from last week and now everybody enjoys playing in the ice cream shop and pretending to be ice cream servers and customers. “May I have ice cream please? What ice cream flavor do you like? I like strawberry ice cream, please. Do you like it with chocolate syrup? Yes, please.” 🍨

After learning about the jobs of doctors, nurses, and teachers, we started to see students acting out as them. Some students lie down on the bed in our hospital area and others play as doctors and nurses checking up their patients. We also have little teachers in the class who teach their friends to read CVC words. It’s so funny seeing them copying how Ms. Fronie teaches them phonics lessons. We would say that Shooting Star students are so hooked on learning about the community helpers. 🧑‍⚕️🩺🧑‍🏫

Pretend play involving community helpers offers numerous benefits for children, including the development of communication, language, social, and emotional skills, as well as fostering creativity and problem-solving abilities. Engaging in this type of play helps children understand and appreciate the roles people play in their communities, encouraging empathy, respect, and a sense of social responsibility.

Matsumoto Bon Bon festival is happening soon and everyone is so excited to participate and dance with their families. In preparation for the festival, we practice the dance during afternoon circle time and we started to practice altogether with all classes in the parking lot, and it was really fun dancing with all our friends.💃

Shooting Star students got invited by Milky Way friends to watch their presentation for the Inquiry Fair in Gojo and they loved it. They tried to give them comments afterwards. “Good job everyone! I like your presentation because you speak clearly.” We also spent Friday morning in their class to have a morning circle together and practice the dance exercise for the Sports Festival. It was such a fun experience for everyone. Thank you, Milky Way friends, for having us!🥰

Our pool play continues, which is just a perfect activity for this very hot weather. Our boys and girls had fun playing with colorful balls in the water. We played the “Bring Me” game using these balls. “Bring me pink balls! Bring me the ball with the word “leg”! They not only didn’t have fun but also were able to review reading CVC /eg/ words.

We’re gonna have another UOI related field trip with Savanna friends next week, Thursday. We can’t wait to meet them again. See you all next week!💖
