Halloween Monsters! MW 9/30-10/4

Hello! The month of October is here and it also means Halloween is coming soon! The Milky Way students got thrilled updating our calendar on the first day of October. We took note of the important events we have for this month and got more excited when we mentioned our Halloween party. They started talking about what costume they are going to wear or who they are going to be. To excite them more, we began to sing and dance Halloween songs during our afternoon circle. Please click the link below to play the song and enjoy the vibe of Halloween season.

Milky Way students also enjoy these two versions of the Hokey Pokey dance.

Of course the Halloween vibe won’t be complete without making crafts, so our class created Halloween monsters. The Milky Way discovered a new technique of making art using paint which is called decalcomania. A decalcomania is a kind of  painting created by pressing a thin layer of wet  paint between two surfaces. How to create a decalcomania: Fold a paper in half and place some paint along the inner crease. With the paint still wet, close the paper and press gently with your hands. Open the paper to see the result. Everybody was amazed with the result they got from the paint on the paper. The result they made is going to be the monster’s face and they just have to add the face parts to complete the craft. They can’t wait to show it and scare everyone at the Halloween party with the scary monsters they made!

But one thing that scared everyone at school was when a stranger jumped over the fence of the school while Milky Way and Shooting Star classes were playing in the school yard. One teacher tried to talk to the stranger to distract him while other teachers found a way to escape with the students. No one from the students knew that we would have a loiterer drill, we didn’t announce it to make it real and see how the teachers and students would react in case a real stranger comes to school. And it was a successful drill, everyone was safe and learned how to escape and to be safe in this kind of situation.

In phonics, we continued learning about digraphs and this week we mastered how to read words with the digraph /ay/. We noticed that the digraph /ai/ has the same sound as /ay/. We found out which part of the word the /ai/ and /ay/ can be found by looking at the example words written on the board and seeing the difference of how to use it. When do we use ai or ay? /ai/ is used in the middle of a one-syllable word or syllable. /ay/  is found at the end of a one syllable word or syllable. We practiced reading /ay/ words by doing the “Roll and Read” activity. The teacher throws or rolls the dice and students read aloud the words in row  which the number shows on the dice.

One of our friends celebrated her birthday this month and we enjoyed the birthday party held in school with good magic tricks done by Ms. Sayuri. Thank you for the fun and amazing birthday party and happy happy birthday to you, our lovely girl!

That’s it for now! Thank you for reading our blog and have a nice weekend!
