Milky way: Mirror, mirror… what did we learn? (Sept 22nd-26th)

Hi all! Everyone proved to be knowledgeable this week, as they were able to remember what they learned and were able to share their knowledge in their own words. The responses the students gave during their one on one interviews, showed that they understood all the lines of inquiry we explored as we learned about teamwork. They could define conflict. They said it means arguing, not agreeing and fighting. They could also explain some of the problem-solving methods they would use If they were to find themselves faced with a conflict. Methods such as talking about the issue, agreeing to take turns, airing out one’s feelings or simply telling the other party to stop what they are doing If they don’t like it. Most were able to identify the common roles in a team based on the team building challenges they participated in over the course of the past few weeks. Roles such as leader, communicator and time-keeper.When asked about goal setting and what it entails, they said that setting a goal is deciding what you want to do and the first thing that has to be done to get the roll balling is thinking about how to do it. Excellent job Milky Way!

This week’s phonics lesson target was the “sc” diagraphs. They played the phonics go fish game, where they had to identify words that began with sc. Whoever fished the target and was able to read the word got a point. Those who couldn’t had to try again until they got it correct. They then did a worksheet where they had to cut sc words and pasted them under the appropriate pictures.

The weather was very cool and nice this week so they went to the park and enjoyed running around and moving their bodies to the best of their ability.

After doing a loiterer drill where a stranger pretended to want to approach the school with ill intentions, the students listened to a lecture about safety from people from the police department.

Tennis lessons resumed this week and they had so much fun!

For the workstations we have been learning how to read time, adding and subtracting numbers within 10 ,polishing up on our speaking skills by a playing snakes and ladders question themed game and constructing sentences using present and past tense words.

Our show and tell was very exciting this week! One of our friends played the violin for us. Everyone was amazed at how talented she is!! If your children like doing certain things like gymnastic moves, playing music instruments(guitars, drums, karimbas etc) please allow them to bring them to school and show their friends and tell(perform) for them! These experiences are good opportunities for them to boost their confidence.

~The week ahead~

We will continue to reflect on unit 2 as we prepare for the next unit which is set to begin on October 6th.
