Milky way: Open day and Traffic Safety Lecture (June 2-6)

Hi everyone! Welcome to Milky way’s first blog of the month of June. The highlight of our week was Monday’s open day! Everyone enjoyed teaming up with their parents to discuss what they can do at home to contribute to making our planet healthier! They also enjoyed picking up trash around the campus. Thank you for taking time out of your busy schedules to be there for your children.

The students have begun wrapping up Unit 1. In the name of REUSING more to maintain the health of the planet, they started decorating the shoe boxes they brought from home. They will serve as a treasure box of sorts, where they can keep items that are dear to them.

For this week’s Japanese lesson they learned how to write the hiragana character “i”.

This week’s phonics lesson was an introduction to “magic e” , that is, short vowel sounds and long vowel sounds. The concept basically states that adding an e to a short vowel word changes the word completely and it becomes a word with a long vowel. For example, adding “e” to cut changes the word to cute. The students practiced reading cvc words and the new words they turned to after an “e” was added to them. Everyone who had similar worksheets then read the words in unison in front of their peers. Everybody did fairly well!

People from the traffic safety department visited the school on Thursday and talked about the importance of properly sitting in child seats and always holding hands with their parents when walking down the road or in parking lots. The students then did a road crossing simulation.

After the lecture they read , “Don and Dots”. Thank you for reading with them at home. The added practice will surely make a positive difference in their reading skills and ability.

In their quest to learn more about plants and vegetables, the students tried to answer the following question: What do plants need to grow? 🌿 They did a worksheet where they had to cut and paste 4 items that they thought plants need to survive, and 3 items they thought plants do not need. Their responses showed the knowledgeable, thinker and communicator learner profile traits!

They wrapped up their busy week by visiting Econecol (the pictures will be uploaded in next week’s blog).

Enjoy your weekend!
