Hi everyone! Welcome to Milky Way’s last blog of February. As we slowly wrap up our inquiry into WHO WE ARE and growth, this week we focused on exploring the skills people develop as they grow and learn and experience different things. The students watched a video showing different skills demonstrated by children aged 4 to 6. We then discussed what they noticed, how the children may have developed those skills, and who might have helped them improve and refine them. Some of the comments made during this discussion were, “-maybe she practiced a lot at home with her mom and dad. That’s how she got so good at tying her shoes!-I think his teacher helped him learn how to read.-He can ride a bike because he kept trying, even when he fell down. Maybe someone was holding the bike at first to help him.”

For this week’s reading lesson, we read the RAZ book “Ant and Grasshopper.”

This connected with our phonics review lessons. We reviewed the “gr” blend and were introduced to the “gl” blend so that students could learn how to pronounce them properly, as differentiating between the “r” and “l” sounds can be relatively difficult for native Japanese speakers.

Please find below the pictures from last week’s high school field trip.At first, Milky Way observed the Geography and English lessons. Then, the high school students read books to Milky Way, and they drew pictures together based on the stories they read. Some students created original drawings, while others replicated their favorite scenes. They then ate their bentos together while chatting in English. It was a day filled with meaningful learning through social interaction, and everyone had fun!

~The week ahead~
We will begin our end-of-unit reflection interviews next week. Our first graduation rehearsal is also scheduled for next week, and everyone will surely try their absolute best to prepare for graduation day!
Thank you for reading our blog this week.Have a nice weekend!
