It’s been a while since the Milky Way and Rainforest classes gathered together. That’s why the Milky Way students couldn’t contain their excitement when they found out that they would have a bus trip together with the Rainforest students. Finally counting the days is over, because on Thursday our bus trip took place in very nice weather at the park. We rode on a bus together, we went to the tower and saw the beautiful view of Matsumoto, we went to the zoo together, we had a picnic together, we played games together, we played at the playground together, and we had so much fun together! 

In our phonics lesson, we learned a new digraph which is long and short /ea/. We read many words together and played “I have… Who has?…” game. The students were given 2 minutes to practice reading the words on their cards and when they were ready we started playing the game. Playing “I Have, Who Has?” in small groups is a fun and engaging way to improve critical academic skills, including listening, attention, memory, problem-solving, and critical thinking.

This week, we also started to open a new unit of inquiry on Traditional Events Around the World. We began knowing about the countries around the world which is our first line of inquiry. We used the KWL chart as in What I Know, What I Want to Know, and What I Learned to assess their prior knowledge and to know what countries they are interested in. Many of them shared their ideas to fill in the two columns of the chart. At the end of this unit, we will complete the last column of the chart which is the L. Another activity we did was making a big world map. We divided the class into groups and they chose the continent they would like to work on, and started working together drawing and painting the map. Milky Way class really loves painting activities!
