Nagano Milky Way: Strong Bodies, Brave Hearts, and Sunny Smiles (Feb. 2nd- 6th)

We had an exciting and memorable Setsubun celebration at school!

When the oni suddenly appeared, there were many surprised faces in the room! Some children felt a little nervous at first, while others were brave and curious. But once we remembered our goal—to send the oni away with our pretend beans—everyone joined in with great enthusiasm to welcome good luck and drive away bad spirits.

The children happily threw their pretend beans while calling out, “Go away, demon!” Together, they showed courage and teamwork as they worked to chase the oni away and invite good fortune into our school.

After the excitement, there were plenty of smiles and laughter as the children reflected on the experience. It was a fun and meaningful way to learn about Japanese culture while practicing bravery and cooperation.

Learning About Keeping Our Bodies Strong and Healthy 💪🥦

As part of our UOI, we explored how to keep our bodies strong and healthy. The children shared many thoughtful ideas! They said we need to eat vegetables and fruits, drink water and tea, get enough sleep, and exercise regularly to stay healthy.

We also watched a video that helped us understand the difference between healthy and unhealthy foods. The students were very engaged and excited to point out which foods help our bodies grow and which ones we should only eat sometimes.

At the end of the week, the children created their own “healthy plate,” choosing and drawing foods they would like to eat to keep their bodies strong. It was wonderful to see their understanding reflected in their choices, and they proudly shared their plates with their friends.

Through this inquiry, the students are learning that taking care of their bodies helps them grow, learn, and feel their best every day! 🌟

Enjoying the Bright Days Outdoors ☀️🌿

Most days this week were nice, bright, and warm—perfect weather for outdoor play! The children were excited to spend time outside, moving their bodies, running, kicking balls, and enjoying the fresh air.

Outdoor play gave them a chance to build their strength, practice teamwork, and simply have fun together. We saw lots of smiles, laughter, and active play as they made the most of the beautiful weather.

Spending time outside helps keep our bodies healthy and our minds refreshed, and we are grateful for these sunny days to learn and grow beyond the classroom walls. 🌈✨
