Inquiry (Our Energy Town Project)

Our classroom has been buzzing with creativity, collaboration, and big ideas this week as we launched our Energy Town Project! As a culminating activity for our unit on energy sources and environmental responsibility, students were placed into groups and tasked with helping a fictional town—Smoketown, Rainyville, or Sun Valley—solve its energy problems.

Each town faced unique challenges like air pollution, flooding, or lack of sustainable energy. The students worked in teams of four to design a solution that would help the town improve its energy use while caring for the environment and its people.

The project required students to create the following:

  • A visual representation of their solution, which they could choose to make as a poster or 3D model. Interestingly, every group chose to make a diorama, showing great enthusiasm for hands-on building and design.
  • A cost plan using a price list to decide what their town could afford to build.
  • A written report explaining their energy plan and how it would benefit the town.
  • A presentation, where each group member shared part of the plan with the class.

Throughout the project, students drew on everything they’ve learned about renewable and non-renewable energy, pollution, and community needs. They will do their presentations next week and have a special exhibition for the lower grades.

Grade 1 exhibition

Our class had the special opportunity to attend the Grade 1 exhibition titled “This Is Me.” The students proudly presented posters filled with drawings, photos, and fun facts that helped us learn more about who they are. We also enjoyed a fantastic talent show where the Grade 1 students showed off their skills, including piano playing, dancing, and even some impressive magic tricks. It was a fun and inspiring event that celebrated their individuality and creativity.

Field trip to Kijimadaira Yamabiko-no-oka Park

This week, our elementary students enjoyed a refreshing and fun-filled day at Kijimadaira Yamabiko-no-oka Park. It was the perfect opportunity to spend time together outdoors, surrounded by beautiful nature.

We started our trip with a long, peaceful walk through the park. The students loved being active, exploring the natural surroundings, and simply enjoying the fresh air with their friends.

We spent the rest of the day playing, eating lunch outside, and making happy memories together. It was a joyful day filled with laughter, movement, and connection. We’re so glad we could share this experience with our students!
