Exploring Media and Influence

This week, we began our new unit, “Media and Its Influence on Society.”
To start, the students discussed different types of media—such as TV, newspapers, the internet, music, and advertising—and how they help people share ideas. We also introduced an important word for this unit: influence. Students discussed what it means to “influence” someone or to be “influenced” by something. Together, we created a Frayer Model to deepen our understanding, focusing on examples from our daily lives and how the media affects how we think and feel.

今週から新しいユニット「メディアと社会への影響」が始まりました。
まず、テレビ・新聞・インターネット・音楽・広告など、さまざまなメディアの種類について話し合いました。そして、このユニットのキーワードである 「影響（influence）」 という言葉を学びました。「誰かに影響を与える」「何かに影響される」とはどういうことかを考えながら、身近な例を出し合いました。最後に、フレイヤーモデルを使って言葉の意味を整理し、メディアが私たちの考え方や感じ方にどのように関わっているかを学びました。

A Musical Media Experience

This week, we also enjoyed a special concert held at school! The musicians performed using a piano and a unique electronic keyboard setup with two rows of keys and a pedal keyboard on the floor. It was amazing how they could make it sound like a whole orchestra was playing. They performed familiar nursery rhymes and songs from popular media, including Detective Conan. The students were fascinated by how the musicians used technology to create rich, layered sounds, and we all had fun dancing to “Jamboree Mickey” together at the end.

今週は、学校で特別なコンサートもありました！
演奏者の方々は、ピアノと、二段の鍵盤と足元のペダル鍵盤がついた電子キーボードを使って演奏しました。まるでオーケストラ全体が演奏しているかのような迫力のある音を出すことができ、とても感動しました。演奏曲には、なじみのある童謡や、メディアで有名な「名探偵コナン」の曲などもありました。子どもたちは、テクノロジーを使ってさまざまな音を重ねていく様子に夢中になり、最後にはみんなで「ジャンボリーミッキー」を踊って楽しい時間を過ごしました。
