Wrapping Up Unit 3 and Self-Assessment

This week marked the end of our Unit 3, Government and Community. Over the past several weeks, the students have explored how governments help organize communities, provide services, and make decisions that affect people’s daily lives. To conclude the unit, each group finished their community map project, showing what they learned about how cities and prefectures work together to support their citizens.

今週で「政府とコミュニティ」のユニット3が終了しました。これまで数週間にわたり、生徒たちは政府がどのように地域を組織し、サービスを提供し、人々の生活に関わる決定を行っているのかを探究してきました。ユニットの締めくくりとして、各グループはコミュニティマップのプロジェクトを完成させ、市や県がどのように協力して市民の生活を支えているのかを表現しました。

To finish the unit, the students also completed a self-assessment reflecting on their learning throughout the entire unit. They thought carefully about what they learned, what they did well, how they worked in groups, and what skills they want to continue improving in the next unit.

ユニットの最後には、これまでの学びを振り返る自己評価にも取り組みました。生徒たちは、どのようなことを学び、どんな点がうまくいったのか、グループでどのように協力したのか、そして次のユニットでどんなスキルを伸ばしていきたいかをじっくり考えました。

This reflection helped students see how much they have grown as thinkers, communicators, and responsible members of their learning community. It was a wonderful way to close the unit and celebrate their progress before beginning the next stage of learning.

この振り返りを通して、生徒たちは「考える力」「伝える力」「責任ある学び手」として自分がどれほど成長したかを実感しました。次のユニットに向けて、新たな学びへとつなげる素晴らしい締めくくりとなりました。

Parents Observation Day: Connecting Learning Across Units

Thank you very much to all the parents who joined us for our Observation Day this week. It was a wonderful opportunity to share how our learning from past units connects to real-world applications.

今週の保護者参観日にご参加いただいた保護者の皆さま、本当にありがとうございました。これまでのユニットでの学びが、どのように現実の活動につながっているのかを見ていただく素晴らしい機会となりました。

During the lesson, the students reviewed what they had learned in previous units—such as energy, government, and community—and discovered how these ideas connect to building a solar panel car. With guidance from one of our supportive community helpers, the students learned how solar energy can be transformed into motion and began constructing their own small cars powered by sunlight.

授業では、これまでのユニット（エネルギー、政府、コミュニティ）で学んだことを振り返り、それらの学びがソーラーパネルカーの製作にどのようにつながるのかを考えました。地域のサポーターの方のご協力のもと、太陽のエネルギーがどのように動力に変わるのかを学び、実際に自分たちの小さなソーラーカーの組み立てを始めました。

The students were proud to share their learning process and show their curiosity in action. It was inspiring to see how they could connect science, problem-solving, and teamwork in such a hands-on way.

生徒たちは、自分たちの学びの過程を保護者の方々に見てもらえることをとても誇りに感じていました。科学的な学び、問題解決力、チームワークを実践的な活動の中で結びつける姿はとても印象的でした。
