The Rainforest class has reached the Going Further stage of the inquiry cycle where they review the information they have gathered and make some adjustments if needed before sharing their learnings to the community.
The whole class invited some guest speakers from the City Environmental Care Division to talk about Recycling. The guest speakers shared with the class the importance of recycling and how recycling is done right! They made the inquiry fun by including quiz games, songs, and dances in the talk.
The little inquirers took this chance to ask more questions after the presentation. Some of their questions were: Why are the 3Rs important, to which the speakers answered: because we only have one world or planet to live in, if we don’t take care of it, we will lose the natural resources, the planet will be warm and it’s going to be a big problem.
The learning from the classroom did not satisfy our little inquirers, they were too excited to learn more. So they heed the speakers’ advice to visit the city cleaning center to further their inquiries because they will see how city waste is managed there.
Despite the unpleasant weather, the whole class went ahead and visited the cleaning center. There, we were greeted by a delegated tour guide. The tour guide showed us around and explained how the garbage was treated once they arrived at the center. The coolest thing we saw was the big crane which kept on mixing the garbage to separate garbage from one another. Also, the recycling center demonstrated how to recycle old paper and make it new! Amazing!
Back in the classroom, one student suggested: Let’s make a recycling center on the campus, and the other said: Let’s make a signage on how to recycle properly. These sentences prove that the inquiry has been successful; kids have a good understanding of the unit and the purpose of the subject. We are excited to see now how are they gonna apply it in their everyday life.
Have a wonderful weekend!
