Firstly, a BIG THANK YOU to those who came for our Cheerful Shimauchi event. Spirits were high despite the gloomy rainy day. We painted pots, made froggy crafts and danced in the rain! This week in school, we had our very first mud play. It was muddy, sticky, cool, sunny with lots of digging and making of chocolate pudding!

We had 2 rounds of medical check up – from the dentist and the doctor. A timely visit by the doctor just as we are working on the unit Who We Are. The doctor checked that our bodies were in good shape. Back in class, Canyon shared about how the doctor used a stethoscope. He check our chests, felt our tummies, and necks and looked into our mouths ah…! Canyon was good at recalling names for the different parts of our bodies. We remembered our manners too and thanked the doctor. The dentists examined our teeth and again we had to say AH!

Further inquiry into how we are the same and different, Canyon examined our names. Who has the big letter R in your name? How many of you? The same! Who has a different big letter in your name? Canyon was excited to call out the first letters of their names. Someone even pointed out: “I have a big letter ‘I’ and a small letter ‘i’ in my name”. Good observation! We learn the alphabet in a meaningful way, not just rote learning A-Z but linking it to our own special names and names of our friends. This is the unique feature of IB’s transdisciplinary approach.

We had a fire drill too. Canyon was exemplary in following instructions during the evacuation. They practised covering their mouths. O-HA-SHI-MO-TE

We started singing a new song for morning circle – What’s your favourite season? When we get to the word SUMMER, we give a big shout out! We have been re-reading our favourite Sesame Street book “We are Different. We are the Same” with a video reading of the story. Please see the links below. Till next week, take care, keep cool and have a fantastic weekend!
