Happy Family Day Waterfall! June 2-6

Welcome to Waterfall to all new students. There are four new friends joining the class and they had a wonderful first week meeting everyone and having fun with the class.
This week older waterfall students taught the newcomers the song and dance to “Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes,” to get some exercise on a rainy day and help teach each other about our features and body parts.   We also sang  “Where is Thumbkin?” to learn everyone’s names.

Happy Family Day! Parents, thank you for joining Waterfall for Music and making a craft with your little inquirers! Also, to celebrate Family Day and explore their UOI about who we are, how we look and how others look, students thoughtfully constructed parent puppets. They looked at mom and dad and considered what kind of features they had in order to build mom or dads faces. Also, students asked, “What do you like?” in order to help decide what color bows, ties or clothes their parents would like for their puppets. Later students helped each other to make their other puppet parents by talking to each other about features and colors. Some students asked for help to peel the tape and friends showed that they are open-minded and caringly assisted! Every person in a family, or group of friends has their own identity, likes, and dislikes, but they can work together and build something great!

Since everyone is now here sharing a classroom, it is time to decide how to learn together, respectfully with an open mind. Waterfall was ready to think of safe and healthy ways to be mindful in school. They made classroom Essential Agreements that everyone’s eyes are looking, ears are listening, voices are quiet, hands are helping, and feet are walking. Now, they can enjoy a safe and fun learning environment. They all chose their favorite colors to stamp their handprints to show commitment their principles.

Look outside! Waterfall showed that they were risk-takers and taught new classmates to sing “How’s the Weather.” Some days were sunny and some were rainy, so students enjoyed time in both the schoolyard, and in the classroom, playing with new friends. They also kept very open-minds while inventing some new games to play with their new friends. Enjoy the weekend and see you next week!
