Jungle Animals!
This week, we started learning about animals that live in the jungle. Just like we made Ocean Animals and displayed them from the ceiling of the classroom to create a Canyon Ocean, we will create a Canyon Jungle. We will learn the names of Jungle Animals using flashcards and find our favorites. Examples include tigers, lions, elephants, alligators, gorillas, pandas, zebras, iguanas, wolves, ostriches, swans, meerkats, antelopes, lemurs, and orangutans. The IB Wall in the classroom is filled with Jungle Animals!

Water Play!
It has been another hot week. The children seem to be looking forward to the pool every day. They enjoy the playground pool as much as time allows. Thanks to daily water play, the children are starting to get dressed very smoothly. They have also become very good at managing their clothes!

Welcome to Canyon, Ms Ann!
Ms. Serena was away from August 5th to 7th to visit her family in Singapore. During that time, Ms. Ann came to help out in the Canyon Class, and we had a wonderful time together. She introduced herself while looking at photos, telling us about her trip from the Philippines, her family, and where she lives! She also told us about how delicious mangoes are, how halo-halo is a famous dessert, and how everyone drinks coconut juice. Thank you so much, Ms. Ann!

Music Lesson!
This week’s music lesson focused on sounds unique to Japan! Ms. Nishimura played us the sounds of wind chimes, shishiodoshi, and fireworks. Many of our friends were familiar with the sounds of wind chimes and fireworks, but when it came to shishiodoshi, even they didn’t know what it sounded like. We listened quietly to the sound of bamboo rustling as water overflowed. What an emotional sound!

Show and Tell!
This week’s Show and Tell was a big hit again. Show and Tell starts like this: “Today, I have show and tell.” “3,2,1, Show us!” After that, we introduce what we have and how we play with it or use it! Finally, we conclude with “Thank you for listening.” “Thank you for sharing!”

Next week will be Obon holiday, so the next blog will be on the weekend of the 18th. There will be a field trip on the 18th, and cow milking activities will continue on the 19th! We hope you all have a wonderful Obon holiday!
