LEARNING AS WE GROW- Jan. 13th-16th

Warm greetings! We are happy to share the start of our new unit.

We have started our last and final unit, where we are discussing “Growth.” To assess the children’s prior knowledge and ideas about what our next unit might be, they observed a series of pictures showing the stages from a baby to an adult. They also participated in a fun Zumba dance and some yoga activities.

After these activities, we discussed the meanings of “healthy” and “unhealthy.” Some children shared that being healthy means being strong, having big muscles, not getting sick, and being happy. Others mentioned that being unhealthy means eating and drinking too many sweets, feeling sad, or having a fever.

It was great to hear and understand their ideas as we introduced our first line of inquiry. After identifying what healthy and unhealthy mean, the children took part in a sorting activity where they chose pictures and classified them as either healthy or unhealthy.

Through this activity, the children were able to express their thinking, make connections to their own experiences, and begin to understand that the choices they make can affect their growth and well-being. This discussion also encouraged them to reflect on their daily habits and helped lay a strong foundation for deeper learning as we continue to explore the concept of growth in the coming weeks.。

Previously, we asked the children to draw their ideas for painting the schoolyard wall. We then combined everyone’s designs to create one large collaborative artwork. The children have been enjoying painting and have been participating carefully and happily. Thanks to everyone’s hard work, we were able to complete a wonderful wall mural!

Through this activity, the children experienced the joy of expressing their ideas, working together with friends, and contributing to a special space for the younger children who will continue at the school.

In this week’s phonics lesson, we discussed the diphthongs au and aw. The children thought of and shared words that include these diphthongs, watched an educational video to reinforce their understanding, and practiced identifying the sounds in different words. To wrap up the lesson, they completed a worksheet where they applied what they had learned. This activity helped strengthen their phonics skills and build confidence in recognizing and using the au and aw sounds in words.

Here’s a glimpse of our reading and writing lessons, where our young learners read a book with their friends and copy a sentence from the book. Through these activities, they practice reading together, develop their writing skills, and build confidence in working both independently and with peers.

Jump Rope

As one way to stay active and keep our bodies healthy, we have started a jump rope challenge. The children first practiced tying their own jump ropes, and during our morning workstation time, they have been trying different skills such as forward jumps, backward jumps, and one-foot jumps.

Some children are jumping rope on their own for the first time, but they keep trying again and again. When they master one skill, they excitedly say, “I want to try more!” and challenge themselves with new techniques. Everyone loves moving their bodies and staying active!

Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend ahead!
