PLANT’S UNIQUE STRUCTURES – Rainforest May 26th-29th

PLANT UNIT

Greetings!

In this week’s unit of inquiry, we studied the physical form and external structure of plants. We went for a walk to pick 3-6 different plants and observe them. Our youngsters drew the plants they collected based on their size, color, shape, pattern, and overall appearance. As inquirers, it’s wonderful to see them learning new things around them and enjoying themselves at the same time.

RECYCLING UNIT

For our recycling unit, we talked about how we can reduce waste and help our environment. We focused on discussing food waste, water waste, plastic pollution, and paper waste. We also made an agreement as principled and thoughtful members of ISN and the community that we are going to do the following:

– We will not waste our food by trying to finish all of it.

– We will not waste water by turning off the faucet while washing our hands with soap.

– We will use eco-bags instead of plastic bags.

– We will use both the front and back of the paper.

According to our little ones, by doing these things, we can help farmers, lunch companies, and people from other countries who don’t have enough food to eat or access to clean water. We can also avoid floods and any accidents that waste can cause.

GENTLE REMINDER FROM THE RAINFOREST CLASS:

“When you waste your food, you are also wasting water.”

SHOW AND TELL

As part of our recycling unit, some of our young ones made something out of recyclable materials at home and brought it to school for show and tell. It’s good to know that their learning about the lesson doesn’t stop at school. Thank you for sharing your beautiful crafts!

*If you are growing a plant at home, students can also bring a picture of the plant or draw it for show and tell.

Two of the Rainforest students turned 6 this month! They had so much fun at their birthday party together with their co-celebrants from other classes! They played a game where they gave 3 clues, and the students from other classes guessed what it was. It was a fun party indeed! Have a blast!

Have a wonderful weekend, everyone!
