This week Waterfall inquirers are learning How We Express Ourselves. In unit 3 students are discovering in LOI 1 that Feelings can be expressed and managed in many different ways. Students are singing the “Kids Greetings and Feelings Song” to start their days-Are you good, great or wonderful?

We read “The Color Monster” again for a closer look at the Monster’s facial expressions. How is he? Is he happy or sad? Is he a little happy or very happy? They looked carefully at his smile, tears, or frown, and some students looked at the weather or flowers around the Monster to discuss his feelings. Then we asked Waterfall how they felt! Students had many feelings big and small, some felt sleepy and some felt very happy! Students then colored to sort many different feelings by color.
It is getting a bit scary so, let’s hide! The best way for students to feel brave and manage feeling scared is for them to be safe and prepared! Waterfall students had a Stranger Danger Drill – they practice protecting themselves from strangers by listening carefully and getting to safety quickly. Now, they are all ready for more fun thrills!

Finally, Waterfall students will soon express all of their big feelings on performance day and they are excited to showcase their musical and acting talents. In the meantime, they are happy practicing their rhythm in Music Class, and having spooky Halloween dance parties with Shimauchi Campus in Morning Circle! We also encourage Waterfall students to be risk-takers and strong communicators by bringing in cool things for Show and Tell!
