Hello and welcome to our new school year!

We had a wonderful first week as we began building our learning community and getting to know one another. The students showed curiosity, enthusiasm, and kindness as they explored their new environment and formed new friendships.

As part of our introduction to the Rainforest theme, students explored a variety of animals from rainforests around the world. From anteaters to tigers, and from orangutans to tapirs, they were highly engaged and eager to inquire. They expressed their understanding creatively by coloring their chosen animals, showing both focus and pride in their work. It was wonderful to see their individuality shine through their artwork.

最初の1週間は、学びのコミュニティづくりと、お互いを知る大切な時間となり、とても素晴らしいスタートを切ることができました。子どもたちは、新しい環境の中で好奇心や意欲、思いやりの気持ちを見せながら、積極的に活動し、新しい友だちとの関係を築いていました。

レインフォレスト（熱帯雨林）をテーマにした導入活動では、世界中のさまざまな動物について探究しました。アリクイやトラ、オランウータン、バクなど、多様な動物に触れる中で、子どもたちは高い関心をもち、意欲的に学びを深めていました。

また、自分で選んだ動物に色を塗る活動では、集中して取り組み、それぞれが自分の作品に誇りをもつ姿が見られました。作品からは一人ひとりの個性が感じられ、とても印象的でした。

Before moving further, the Rainforest class co-constructed their Essential Agreement, which will guide how they inquire and interact as a class. Through meaningful discussions, the students shared their ideas about what a safe, respectful, and happy classroom looks like. They demonstrated strong student agency by contributing their voices and agreeing on shared expectations. This process fosters a sense of ownership, responsibility, and mutual respect within our learning community.

次の学びへ進む前に、レインフォレストクラスでは、クラスでの探究や関わり方の指針となる「エッセンシャル・アグリーメント（大切な約束）」を子どもたちと一緒に作りました。話し合いを通して、「安心できる」「思いやりのある」「楽しい」クラスとはどのようなものかについて、それぞれが自分の考えを出し合いました。子どもたちは自分の意見をしっかりと伝え、共通の約束として合意する姿が見られ、主体的に関わろうとする力が感じられました。

このような取り組みを通して、子どもたち一人ひとりがクラスの一員としての意識をもち、責任感や互いを尊重する気持ちを育んでいきます。

During free play, students explored a variety of materials and activities based on their interests. Many enjoyed building with blocks and LEGO, while others chose reading, drawing, or engaging in imaginative play. This time supported the development of their communication skills, creativity, and independence, while also strengthening their relationships with peers.

自由遊びの時間には、子どもたちは自分の興味に応じてさまざまな素材や活動に取り組みました。ブロックやレゴでの構成遊びを楽しむお友達が多く見られたり、読書やお絵描き、ごっこ遊びを選んで楽しむ姿も見られました。

この時間を通して、コミュニケーション能力や創造性、自主性が育まれるとともに、友だちとの関わりもより深まっていきました。

Rainforest in Action!

Our first swimming session was an exciting experience for everyone. The students rode the bus to the pool and began learning about water safety and basic swimming skills. They showed courage as risk-takers and supported one another throughout the activity. After the session, many expressed excitement about returning for future lessons.

The students also had the opportunity to experience tennis for the first time. They were introduced to basic skills and safety guidelines while exploring the sport in a fun and supportive environment. It was a great way to build coordination, confidence, and teamwork.

Rainforestになって初めてのスイミングは、とてもわくわくする体験となりました。バスに乗ってプールへ行き、水の安全についてや基本的な泳ぎ方を学び始めました。子どもたちは新しいことにも勇気をもって挑戦し、互いに励まし合う様子が見られました。レッスンの後には、「また行きたい！」と次回を楽しみにする声も多く聞かれました。

また、テニスにも初めて挑戦しました。基本的な動きや安全に関する約束を学びながら、楽しく安心できる環境の中で活動に取り組みました。体の動きを調整する力や自信、チームワークを育む良い機会となりました。

During gym time, students engaged in physical activities that supported their overall development. They practiced movement skills, followed instructions, and worked collaboratively with their peers while enjoying active play.

ジムレッスンでは、フープを使って体を動かすさまざまな活動に取り組みました。心身の発達を促すいい機会となっています。基本的な動きの練習をしたり、指示を聞いて行動したりしながら、友だちと協力して楽しく体を動かす姿が見られました。

Japanese Class

In our first Japanese lesson, students learned about classroom routines and expectations. They introduced themselves through drawings of their faces, favorite foods, and things they enjoy. They showed creativity and enthusiasm, and practiced writing their names in Japanese, making the experience both meaningful and engaging.

さて、今年度は日本の文化や言葉を探究する日本語レッスンが始まりました。初めてのレッスンでは、教室での過ごし方や約束について日本語で振り返りました。また、自分の顔や好きな食べ物、好きなことを絵で表現しながら、いろいろなお友達と二人組を作り自己紹介をし合いました。子どもたちは創造性や意欲を発揮し、日本語で自分の名前を書くことに挑戦するお子さんもいましたよ。楽しく充実した学びの時間となりました。

We are very proud of how the students have started the year. We look forward to continuing this journey together as they grow as inquirers, communicators, and caring members of our learning community.
