🌍 Sharing the Planet – Student Presentations

Over the past few weeks, our students have been diving into our Sharing the Planet Unit of Inquiry. After our first round of explorations, students began asking thoughtful and focused questions about clean water. These questions guided their research and presentations.

Some of the key questions students explored were:

  • What is clean water?
  • Why is clean water important for our bodies?
  • Why do we need clean water?
  • What happens without clean water?
  • What happens if we don’t drink water?
  • Who discovered how to clean water?
  • Why do we need to use clean water?
  • How does clean water help prevent disease?

🔍 From Wondering to Research

Students chose a question that interested them and began researching to find clear and accurate information. They worked on:

  • Understanding new vocabulary
  • Explaining ideas in their own words
  • Making connections between water, health, and daily life
  • Organising their ideas clearly

During this process, students demonstrated many IB Learner Profile attributes:

  • Inquirers – asking meaningful questions and seeking answers.
  • Thinkers – making connections between water, health, and disease prevention.
  • Communicators – clearly sharing their ideas.
  • Knowledgeable – building understanding about water and the human body.
  • Risk-Takers – presenting confidently, even when nervous.
  • Principled – recognising the importance of using water responsibly.

🎤 Presentation Skills in Action

On presentation day, students practised:

  • Speaking clearly and confidently
  • Looking at their audience
  • Listening respectfully
  • Asking thoughtful follow-up questions

It was wonderful to see the growth in confidence and curiosity across the class.

🌱 Where Will Our Learning Go Next?

Now we are wondering — where will the students take their learning next?

As their understanding deepens, we are beginning to explore new directions, such as:

  • Investigating how water is cleaned in our local community.
  • Comparing access to clean water in different countries.
  • Exploring simple filtration experiments in class.
  • Taking action by promoting healthy water habits at school.
  • Creating awareness posters or campaigns about saving and protecting water.

Students are beginning to move from simply learning about clean water to thinking about how they can make a difference. This shift shows growing responsibility and agency in their learning.

We are excited to see how their curiosity continues to develop and how they will choose to take action as responsible global citizens 🌎
