My name is Martyn Hatori-Singleton and I am from Ireland. I have been living in Japan for about 18 years. And working as a teacher for 22 years. I live locally in the Shiga area of Matsumoto with my wife and my daughter who also attends I.S.N. and has just started Grade 3.
Life has taught me that learning is both wonderful and endless. And the learning habits we develop at a younger age, are indeed formative and long-lasting.
I hope to nurture within the Middle School students at I.S.N. Gojo respect for people and the earth, as well as imbuing a sense of fairness and kindness.
Above all though, I will seek to nurture the class member’s curiosity. So when they move on from I.S.N., they will believe themselves truly ready to enter into the greater world and gladly relish whatever challenges life has to offer them.
So, what has the Middle School been doing this week?
Well, we are probably still getting to know each other. Likes/dislikes. Strengths/weaknesses. And, inspirations.
Inspiration, has also somewhat guided the direction of our week. “Where do we come from, what are we and where are we going?” have been just some of the questions informing are explorations.
And finally, a reminder that Saturday 22nd April is our Observation/Spring Festival. It would be great to be able to meet all the parents/guardians and get to know you all a little better. I would also like to use the opportunity to discuss about the directions each of the class members are embarking upon and get feedback from you as well.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and I look forward to meeting you soon.
