Grade 4 & 5 Monthly Highlights: A Month of Creativity, Learning and Exploration!

Dear Parents and Friends,
What an exciting and productive month it has been for our Grade 4 and 5 students! We’ve had a wonderful time diving into new projects, rehearsing for our much-anticipated Performance Day, and exploring the world through words, art, and even a little bit of travel! Here’s a look at the activities that kept our classrooms buzzing with energy and creativity throughout the past month.

Performance Day: “Night at Gojo Museum”
A highlight of this month was our ongoing preparations for Performance Day! The students have been rehearsing for our stage play, Night at Gojo Museum, a fun and intriguing production set in a mysterious museum. Each student embraced their role with enthusiasm, whether acting, dancing, or helping behind the scenes. The play is not just about showcasing their acting skills but also about teamwork, creativity, and understanding the magic of storytelling. We can’t wait to share all the hard work when we bring it to life on stage!

Exploring Poetry: Acrostic, Cinquain, and Diamante Poems

In U.O.I., students had the opportunity to explore different styles of poetry. They began with Acrostic poems, where the first letter of each line spells out a word, giving them a fun way to express their creativity. They then moved on to Cinquain poems, which are five-line poems with a specific syllable count, teaching them about brevity and rhythm. Finally, they wrote Diamante poems, a seven-line, diamond-shaped poem that explores opposites or contrasts. It was exciting to see how students used these forms to express their thoughts and ideas in such unique and creative ways!

RAZ English Level Checks
This month, our students also focused on improving their English reading and comprehension skills. They continued working for RAZ English level checks, which help assess their progress and identify areas where they could further grow. We are proud of how hard they have worked to improve their reading fluency and comprehension, and we look forward to continuing to support their language development in the coming months.

A Field Trip to Matsumoto City Museum

Our month of learning was further expanded when the students enjoyed a field trip to the Matsumoto City Museum. The museum visit provided a wonderful opportunity for students to engage with local history and art, giving them a broader perspective on the world around them. They explored fascinating exhibits that inspired their curiosity and sparked thoughtful discussions.
As we look ahead to next month, we’re excited to continue building on these experiences. Thank you for your continued support in making this a memorable and enriching month for our students!

Warmly,

Martyn (G4+5 Homeroom Teacher)
