This week in Shooting Star class was full of excitement, learning, and joyful moments. Our students have shown growing interest and skill in playing with spinning tops. Every day, more children were able to wrap the string around the top and spin it independently. Each successful spin brought big smiles and a sense of pride. This activity has now become a favorite after lunch and after nap time, encouraging patience, coordination, and confidence.

今週のシューティングスタークラスは、ワクワクする出来事や学び、そしてたくさんの笑顔にあふれた一週間でした。子どもたちは、こま遊びへの興味と技能をどんどん高めています。毎日、ひもをこまに巻き、自分の力で回せるようになる子が増えてきました。上手に回せた瞬間には、大きな笑顔と達成感が見られました。今では、昼食後やお昼寝後のお気に入りの遊びとなり、忍耐力、手先の協調性、そして自信を育んでいます。

Our Shooting Star students have also been making amazing progress with jump rope activities. At first, jumping over the rope was challenging, but with daily practice during outdoor play, most students can now jump up to 10 times on their own. During our gym lesson, Ms. Airi was impressed by their improvement and challenged them to level up the activity. This time, the children had to step into a rotating rope, stop at the right moment, and jump over it. Even though some students felt scared, they tried their best and showed incredible courage and determination. They truly demonstrated the Risk-taker learner profile, celebrating each success along the way.

また、大縄跳びでも素晴らしい成長が見られました。最初は縄を跳び越えることが難しかったのですが、外遊びの時間に毎日練習を重ねた結果、多くの子どもたちが一人で10回まで跳べるようになりました。ジムレッスンでは、子どもたちの上達ぶりに感心したアイリ先生が、さらにレベルアップした課題に挑戦するよう促しました。今回は、回っている縄の中に入るタイミングを見極め、止まり、そして縄を跳ぶという活動です。怖い気持ちを感じた子もいましたが、最後まで一生懸命挑戦し、勇気と粘り強さを見せてくれました。まさに「リスクテイカー」の学習者像を体現し、一つひとつの成功をみんなで喜び合いました。

In our Unit of Inquiry, we learned about Setsubun in Japan. The children excitedly shared their ideas, saying, “Demons come! We throw beans!” They practiced the traditional Japanese chant meaning “Demons out! Good luck in!” in both Japanese and English. They learned that Setsubun is celebrated to chase away bad luck from changing seasons and to welcome good luck. The children enjoyed making demons and gods of good luck using origami paper, combining creativity with cultural understanding. Another fun UOI activity was a quiz about New Year and Setsubun, which the children eagerly answered, showing how much they remembered and understood from our lessons.

UOI（探究の単元）では、日本の「節分」について学びました。子どもたちは「鬼が来る！豆を投げる！」と楽しそうに意見を出し合い、「鬼は外、福は内」という伝統的な掛け声を、日本語と英語の両方で練習しました。節分は、季節の変わり目に悪いものを追い払い、良い運を迎える行事であることを学びました。折り紙を使って鬼や福の神を作る活動では、創造力を発揮しながら、日本の文化への理解を深めることができました。さらに、お正月と節分に関するクイズにも挑戦し、これまでの学びをよく覚えていることが伝わってきました。

The students also did a birthday show and tell, sharing photos and stories of how they celebrate birthdays at home, which is also part of our UOI lesson on how Japanese celebrate birthday. Everyone was excited to see their friends’ pictures. Together, we compared celebrations, noticed similarities and differences, and shared thoughts. This activity encouraged communication, open-mindedness, and respect for one another’s experiences.

また、UOIの一環として、誕生日のShow＆Tellも行いました。子どもたちは、お家での誕生日の過ごし方について、写真やエピソードを紹介しました。友だちの写真を見ることに、みんな大興奮でした。日本での誕生日のお祝いについて学びながら、共通点や違いを見つけ、意見を共有することで、コミュニケーション力、オープンマインド、そしてお互いの経験を尊重する気持ちが育まれました。

We had planned to visit the park on Friday, but because it was a snowy day, it was not safe to walk there. Instead, the children had a fantastic time playing in the snow. They enjoyed snowball fights and used their imagination to make snow cakes, ice cream, and shaved ice. Thank you so much to their complete snow gear, the students were able to enjoy the snow comfortably and safely, making the day extra special.

It was truly a joyful week filled with learning, laughter, and memorable moments. The Shooting Star students continue to grow in skills, independence, confidence, and interest while exploring, creating, and challenging themselves every day.

金曜日は公園へ行く予定でしたが、雪の日となり安全面を考慮して中止しました。その代わりに、園庭で雪遊びを思いきり楽しみました。雪合戦をしたり、想像力を働かせて雪でケーキやアイスクリーム、かき氷を作ったりしました。防寒具をしっかりご準備いただいたおかげで、子どもたちは暖かく安全に雪遊びを楽しむことができ、特別な一日となりました。ご協力ありがとうございました。

学びと笑い、そして心に残る思い出がたくさん詰まった、本当に素晴らしい一週間でした。シューティングスタークラスの子どもたちは、日々の探究や創作、挑戦を通して、技能、主体性、自信、そして学ぶことへの興味を着実に伸ばし続けています。
