What a lively week we had! Below is a peek into our adventures in phonics, crafts, and nature.
とてもにぎやかな一週間でした！フォニックス、クラフト、自然の中での活動を楽しみました。その様子を少しご紹介します。
We continued reading CVC words from the ‑in family (pin, tin, win, bin, sin, fin). After reading practice inside, we went outdoors for a CVC hopscotch game. Each child hopped into a box and read the word written there — a fun way to reinforce decoding.
まず、フォニックスでは CVC（子音-母音-子音）単語の “-in” ファミリー（pin, tin, win, bin, sin, fin）の読み練習を続けました。教室の中で練習した後は、屋外に出て「CVCホップスコッチゲーム」をしました。マスに書かれた単語を声に出して読みながらジャンプすることで、楽しくデコーディング(音を理解し言葉として読む）の練習ができました。
In writing, we focused on the lowercase /m/. The children practiced forming it, then competed in a board game: when the teacher called out a lowercase letter, each player raced to write it. Correct answers earned points for their group — learning through play!
ライティングでは、小文字の “m” にフォーカスしました。正しい書き方を練習した後は、ゲーム形式で小文字を覚えるアクティビティをしました。先生が文字を言うと、それをすばやく書いて、正解すればグループにポイントが入るという遊びです。遊びを通して学びを深めました！
With fall approaching, the children cut leaves in colors they liked and drew veins on them to add to our “helping hand tree.” We also started Halloween crafts to decorate the gym for the Halloween party. Students picked a character (ghost / black cat / jack-o’-lantern / witch) and began cutting, folding, and designing faces. We chose this project partly to help strengthen folding skills, which some children are still mastering.
秋の訪れを感じながら、子どもたちは好きな色の葉っぱを切って、葉脈を描き、「お手伝いの手の木（Helping Hand Tree）」に貼りました。また、ハロウィンに向けてジムを飾るクラフトもスタート。子どもたちはゴースト、黒猫、ジャック・オー・ランタン、魔女の中からキャラクターを選び、切ったり折ったりして顔をデザインしました。この活動は、紙を折る力を育てることも目的の一つです。
On Thursday, we conducted a loiterer (stranger‑alert) drill during recess, without informing the Shooting Star students in advance. While they were playing in the school yard, one of the police officers pretended to be a suspicious person who might try to approach the children. The teachers quickly gave instructions for all students to return inside the school, “escaping” from the stranger.
木曜日には、園庭での自由遊びの時間に「不審者対応訓練（ロイター訓練）」を行いました。シューティングスターの子どもたちには事前に知らせずに行い、警察官の方が不審な人物役を演じました。先生たちはすぐに指示を出し、全員が速やかに校舎内へ避難。「不審者」から安全に「逃げる」練習ができました。
Overall, the drill was a success: the children were safely brought back into the building before the “stranger” could do anything. After the drill, we had a heartwarming moment: the students presented thank‑you cards they made to the officers. All of them said, “Thank you, police officers, for keeping us safe.” Interestingly, none of the students recognized who the “stranger” was or realized he was acting — which suggests the drill felt realistic yet was handled safely and smoothly.
避難訓練は大成功でした。不審者役の警察官が接触する前に全員が安全に建物内に戻ることができました。そして、訓練後には心温まるひとときも。子どもたちが事前に用意していた「ありがとうカード」を警察の方々に手渡し、「警察官さん、いつも私たちを守ってくれてありがとう」と全員で伝えました。面白いことに、誰一人として「不審者役」が実は警察官だったことに気づいていませんでした。それだけリアルに感じられた訓練でしたが、安全かつスムーズに行うことができました。
On Friday, we walked to the park and spotted butterflies and dragonflies along the way. At the park, we played Mr. Wolf: everyone chants “Mr. Wolf, what time is it?” and when “dinner time” is announced, children run to their “homes.” Lots of laughter and movement.
金曜日は、みんなで公園へ歩いて行きました。途中で蝶々やトンボを見つけたり、自然を楽しみました。公園では「オオカミさん、今何時？」というゲームをして、たくさん走って笑って過ごしました。
Next week, we’ll continue crafting and finishing our Halloween decorations, and we’ll begin exploring a new CVC family. Stay tuned for more fun learning moments.
