This week in Shooting Star Class, learning was full of fun, curiosity, and discovery! On Tuesday, our students gathered to watch a lively puppet show about three wishes. The children were delighted, laughing together at the funny moments and enjoying the magic of storytelling.
今週のShooting Starクラスでは、学びが楽しさと好奇心、そして発見に満ちていました！火曜日には、「3つの願い」をテーマにした楽しいパペットショーをみんなで鑑賞しました。子どもたちはストーリーの面白い場面で笑い合いながら、物語の魔法を楽しんでいました。
Our Unit of Inquiry (UOI) continued with an exciting exploration of living things, focusing on how they move and grow. This week, the spotlight was on plants! The students shared their experiences caring for plants at home, explaining how they put their plants near windows so they can soak up sunlight.
We showed pictures of plants leaning toward different directions, sparking an interesting discussion. Together, we discovered that plants move toward sunlight to help them grow. The roots also have a special job—they grow toward water in the soil to keep the plant healthy and thriving. The children learned that sunlight and water are essential for plants to grow and stay alive.
UOI（探究の時間）では「生き物の特徴」についての探究を続けており、今週は「植物」に注目しました。植物はどのように成長し、どのように動くのかを学んでいます。子どもたちは、自宅で植物を育てている経験をシェアしてくれました。「日当たりのいい窓際に置いているよ」と話してくれる子もいました。
植物がさまざまな方向に傾いている写真を見せると、子どもたちは興味津々。みんなで話し合いながら、植物は光の方に向かって動いていることに気づきました。また、根っこは水のある場所に向かって伸びていき、植物が元気に育つのを助けていることも学びました。植物が育つためには「太陽の光」と「水」がとても大切だということを理解できました。
To deepen their learning, on Thursday we took the class outdoors for a morning at the park. The day started with our morning song sung in a big circle under the open sky, setting the tone for a day of exploration.
The highlight was a Living and Nonliving Things Scavenger Hunt! The children teamed up in small groups and wandered through the park, searching for things that are alive and things that are not. They sketched living creatures like ants, caterpillars, cats, and dragonflies, and collected or noted nonliving items such as stones, fallen leaves, and feathers.
木曜日には、公園へお出かけして屋外学習を行いました。青空の下で朝の歌を歌いながら、自然の中で一日がスタート！
この日のハイライトは「生きているもの・生きていないもの」をテーマにしたスカベンジャーハント（探しものゲーム）です！子どもたちは小さなグループに分かれて公園の中を歩き回り、「生きているもの」と「生きていないもの」を探しました。
アリ、イモムシ、ネコ、トンボなどの生きものをスケッチしたり、石、落ち葉、羽などの生きていないものを拾ったり記録したりしました。
Back in class, the students shared their findings and discussed why some things are considered living—they grow, move, and need food or water—while others are nonliving because they don’t grow or move on their own.
クラスに戻ってからは、見つけたものを発表し合い、「生きているものは成長したり、動いたり、水や食べ物が必要」、「生きていないものは自分では動かないし、成長もしない」ということを話し合いながら学びを深めました。
Shooting Star Class has two special events coming up next week! Wednesday is our Autumn Bus Trip! Please remember to bring your bento lunch so everyone can enjoy a tasty meal together during the outing.
Then, on Friday afternoon, we’re headed to Mr. Koyama’s Farm for a fun and hands-on experience harvesting sweet potatoes. It’s a wonderful opportunity for the children to learn more about plants and where our food comes from.
