Milky way: Before the lesson begins: Unlocking students’ hidden knowledge. (July 7th-11th)

Hello everyone! 　みなさんこんにちは！

Welcome to Milky way’s second blog of July. We kicked off the week with prior knowledge assessment. They did a gallery walk, where the students walked around and looked at pictures and objects displayed on the classroom tables. They then did a reflection worksheet where they drew their favorite picture from the gallery walk and they had to explain why they liked it.

ミルキーウェイ7月二度目のブログへようこそ。今週は事前知識のアセスメントから始まりました。ギャラリーウォークでは、生徒たちは教室の机に展示された絵や物を見ながら歩き回り、鑑賞しました。これらの物を見て「思ったこと、感じたこと、疑問に思ったこと」を生徒たちに聞きました。「この写真、みんな笑顔だね！」「何かのスポーツに勝ったのかな？」「みんな楽しそう！」など色々なコメントが出てきました。その後、振り返りワークシートに取り組みました。ギャラリーウォークで見た中からお気に入りの絵を描き、その理由を説明するワークシートです。レッスンの最後に子どもたちに聞きました。私たちがこれからUnit2で学ぶ内容ってなんだろう？子どもたちはたくさん考えました。一人の生徒が言いました。「みんなで楽しむこと！」するともう一人は「チームで楽しく遊ぶのかも」そして「チーム作り！」と答えた子どももいました。なんと、保育者たちが与えたヒントとギャラリーウォークで見た物だけを元にUnit2のテーマをほとんど当ててくれました👏

Ever since unit 1 officially ended, everyone has been itching to know what awaits them in unit 2. Therefore our mission this week was to lead the students to the answer. They followed up Monday’s UOI lesson by looking at pictures and then freely saying words they thought could be used to describe these pictures. There were a lot of interesting contributions. Words and phrases such as , “helping, caring, listening, thinking, friendly, sharing, talking and making teams”, came up. By the end of the lesson everyone knew that our topic for unit 2 is going to be about teamwork! They showed good teamwork, worked well together by sharing their ideas and thoughts to come to a conclusion! Great work Milky way!

ユニット1が正式に終了して以来、ユニット2では何が待ち受けているのか、皆待ち望んでいました。そこで今週の私たちの使命は、生徒たちをその答えへと導くことでした。生徒たちは月曜日のUOIレッスンに続き、絵を見て、それらの絵を表すのに使えると思う言葉を自由に発言しました。すると、たくさんの興味深い発言がありました。「助け合う、思いやりを持つ、聞く、考える、仲良くする、共有する、話す、チームを作る」といった言葉やフレーズが出てきました。レッスンの終わりには、ユニット2のテーマがチームワークであることが全員に伝わっていました！生徒たちは素晴らしいチームワークを発揮し、アイデアや考えを共有しながら協力し合い、結論へと導きました！ミルキーウェイさん、素晴らしい成果です！

For this week’s phonics lesson they learned the ee, ea and ey vowel teams. They played a game called “catch me If you can.” When an object was placed behind someone that person had to walk as fast as they could to catch the person who placed it. If caught they had to read a vowel team word and try to make a sentence using that word. If the person couldn’t catch their counterpart they had to read the word shown to them by the teacher and make a sentence. They had to read words such as money, key, chimney, feed, keep, meet, clean, cheap and meat.

今週のフォニックスの授業では、ee、ea、eyの母音チームを学びました。「catch me If you can」というゲームをしました。誰かの後ろに物が置かれたら、その物を置いた人はできるだけ速く歩いて前の人を捕まえなければなりません。捕まえられた人は、母音チームの単語を読み、その単語を使った文を作ってみなければなりません。捕まえられなかった人は、先生が示した単語を読んで文を作ってみなければなりません。money（お金）、key（鍵）、chimney（煙突）、feed（餌）、keep（維持する）、meet（会う）、clean（清潔な）、cheap（安い）、meat（肉）といった単語を読みました。

This week’s tennis lesson was the last one as we take a break to avoid the extreme summer heat. Tennis classes will resume in the middle of September.

今月最後のテニス、みんなボールとラケットに慣れてきましたよ！
猛暑を避けるため、今週のテニスレッスンはこれで最後となります。テニスレッスンは9月中旬に再開します。

The show and tell sessions continue to encourage the students to speak confidently in front of their peers and teachers. One of our rule regarding these presentations is that the presenter should say at least three things about their item. If you have the time, please practice with them at home what they will say about the item they bring to school.

ショー・アンド・テルのセッションは、生徒たちが友達や先生の前で自信を持って話せるよう、引き続き励んでいます。このプレゼンテーションに関する私たちのルールの一つは、発表者は持ち物について少なくとも3つのことを話すということです。もし時間があれば、学校で持参した持ち物について、子どもたちが何を話すか、お家で一緒に練習してみてください。
