Hi everyone! Welcome to our first blog of the month of November.This week we moved on to learning about the 5th and final element of stories for our 1st line of inquiry. The students listened to the “three little pigs ” story and had to answer these 2 questions: (1). What went wrong in the story? Some of their responses were,”The wolf blew down the second pig’s house”, “the wolf destroyed the houses.”(2) What was the outcome?Some of their responses to this question were, “the wolf fell into a hot pot and ran away because he was scared”,” the wolf couldn’t blow down the brick house because it was very strong.” The first lesson’s main focus was for them to try and identify the issues that arose in the story. They did very well.

皆さん、こんにちは！11月最初のブログになります。今週は、物語の最後の要素について学びました。みんな「三匹の子豚」の物語を聞いて、次の2つの質問に答えました。(1) 物語の中でどのような問題がありましたか？みんなの答えは、「オオカミが二匹目の子豚の家を吹き飛ばした」「オオカミが家を壊した」などが出てきました。(2)その結果何が起こりましたか？この質問に対するみんなの答えは、「オオカミは熱い鍋に落ちて怖がって逃げた」「オオカミはレンガの家がとても頑丈だったので吹き飛ばせなかった」などでした。最初のレッスンの主な焦点は、物語の中で浮かび上がった問題点を特定することでした。さすがミルキーウェイさん！みんな大変よくできました！

We continued where we left off the following day by listening to three stories. THE ANT AND THE GRASSHOPPER, GOLDILOCKS AND THE THREE BEARS and THE THREE LITTLE PIGS. As we asked each other questions and making comments as the stories were being read, the students eventually figured out that the next element we were going to learn about was “conflicts and solutions”. In some stories characters encounter problems(conflicts) and in most cases than not, they figure out how to handle these problems. To gauge the students understanding and to help what they learned stick in, they worked on these three stories in three groups. They were provided with problems from all of the three stories and had to figure out the possible solutions to these issues with their group members. They then took turns to do short skits to retell the conflicts and solutions they discussed,in front of their peers.

そして前回のレッスンの続きから3つの物語「アリとキリギリス」「ゴルディロックスと三匹のクマ」「三匹の子豚」の話をもう一度聞きました。物語を読みながら互いに質問したりコメントしたりするうちに、次に学ぶテーマが「コンフリクト（葛藤・衝突・問題など）と解決法」だと気づきました。物語の中には、登場人物が問題に遭遇するものもあり、多くの場合、登場人物はそれらの問題にどう対処するかを考え出します。みんなの理解度を測り、内容を定着させるために、3つのグループに分かれて3つの物語に取り組みました。3つの物語の問題点を読み、グループのメンバーと共に、これらの問題に対するあらゆる解決策を考えました。その後、グループごとに短い寸劇を行い、話し合った問題点と解決策をみんなの前で話し合いました。このアクティビティはUnit2で探究したチームワークの要素も含まれており、みんなコミュニケーションをしっかり取り、とても素晴らしいチームワークが見られました。

They also drew pictures of the conflicts they noticed in their assigned stories and wrote the solutions they discussed.

課題のストーリーの中で気づいた問題点を一つ選び絵に描き、話し合った解決策を書きました。

We added “gr” blends vocabulary to our word bank this week.

今週は「gr」の複合語の語彙をみんなの「単語バンク」に追加しました。

The students have been diligently working hard on their time reading, math, reading and writing skills through workstations.

子どもたちは、ワークステーションを通じて、読書、算数、読み書きのスキルの向上に熱心に取り組んでいます。

Next week we will move on to the second line of inquiry of our transdisciplinary theme.They will be discovering how feelings and ideas are expressed through storytelling and connecting this to their Christmas show play.
