Welcome to our very first blog of 2026! The students came back to school feeling refreshed, full of smiles, and ready to learn as they enjoy their final term in preschool.We kicked off the week by learning about Japanese tradition by designing our own kendamas and playing with them. This traditional Japanese toy has been enjoyed for many, many years. It is made of wood and has a ball attached to a string, and the goal is to catch the ball on different parts of the kendama. It takes patience, focus, and lots of practice,just like learning new skills at school!

2026年最初のブログへようこそ！ミルキーウェイのみんなは冬休みでリフレッシュができ、笑顔いっぱいで園に戻り、保育園最後の学期を楽しく学ぶ準備は万端のようです😉 今週は、自分たちでけん玉をデザインして遊びながら、日本の伝統について学ぶことからスタートしました。この日本の伝統的な遊びは、長年親しまれてきました。木でできた土台で、紐にボールがついていて、その様々な形の部位でボールをキャッチするのが目的です。学校で新しいスキルを学ぶのと同じように、忍耐力、集中力、そしてたくさんの練習が必要です！
We dived right into exploring our new transdisciplinary theme. The students looked at items that were displayed before them and freely said what they thought.
私たちはすぐに、新しいユニットテーマの探究に取り組み始めました。子どもたちは目の前に展示された物を見て、自由に感想を述べました。
They were then asked, “who do you think uses these things?”Most of them responded, “babies”. The next question was, “why do you think babies uses these things?” They responded, “because they are small “, “If babies were to wear big clothes, they would fall off their bodies”,”because babies drink milk from bottles”, “a baby cannot drink from a cup because the milk will spill” etc. It was a fun discussion that showed that we are all great thinkers.This is promising to be a fun-filled unit!
次に「これらは誰が使うと思いますか？」と質問したところ、ほとんどの子どもが「赤ちゃん」と答えました。次の質問は「なぜ赤ちゃんはこれらを使うと思いますか？」でした。「小さいから」「大きな服を着ると落ちてしまうから」「哺乳瓶でミルクを飲むから」「コップで飲むとミルクがこぼれてしまうから」などと答えてくれました。とても楽しいディスカッションで、クラス全員がとても優れた「考える力」を持っていることが分かりました。楽しいユニットになりそうです！
For phonics we learned the “sl” blend. This was a tricky one as some students pronounced “l” as “r”. But with lots of revision and reading lots of books, they will soon master this blend.
フォニックスでは「sl」の発音を学びました。「l」を「r」と発音する生徒もいたので、これは少し難しかったですがも、何度も復習し、たくさんの本を読めば、すぐにこの発音をマスターできるでしょう💪
We then read, “the one red sled”, a book with many words that contain words with the sl blend.
そしてリーディングレッスンでは、slで始まる単語が多数含まれる本「the one red sled」を読みました。

The Tv crew will visit us next week to film us saying,”ashita wa tenki ni naare! “We will say this in English, so please watch it when it’s broadcast. We will continue our inquiry into life’s beginning.
