Hi everyone!
To continue last week’s discussion about growth and how society helps us grow, we took things a step further this week by asking ourselves what our family members currently do or did in the past to help us grow. The students watched videos and short stories about the family unit and how people support each other’s growth. One new thing that came up after watching these videos was that parents help babies grow by protecting them. The mommy chicken in the animated story they watched tried her very best to prevent the egg from falling and breaking. So she protected her child even before it was born before it hatched.
皆さん、こんにちは！先週の「成長」と「社会がどのように私たちの成長を支えてくれるか」というディスカッションに続き、今週はさらに一歩踏み込み、家族が自分たちの成長をサポートするために、現在、あるいは過去にどのようなことをしてくれたのかを自問自答しました。家族の絆や、人々がどのように互いの成長を支え合っているかをテーマにしたビデオや短編ストーリーを視聴しました。これらのビデオを見て新たに気付いたことは、親が赤ちゃんを守ることで成長を助けているということです。視聴したアニメストーリーに登場するお母さんニワトリは、卵が落ちて割れないように全力を尽くしました。つまり、赤ちゃんが生まれる前から、お母さんニワトリは赤ちゃんを守っていたのです。
The key takeaway from our discussion was that even though some dads or moms might not spend a lot of time at home, they still contribute to our growth by going to work and earning money. That money is used to buy us food, clothes, toys, and other things we need, from the time we were born until now.

私たちの話し合いの中で最も重要なことは、お父さんやお母さんの中には家にいる時間があまりない人もいるかもしれませんが、それでも仕事に行ってお金を稼ぐことで私たちの成長をサポートしてくれているということです。そのお金は、私たちが生まれてから今に至るまで、食べ物、服、おもちゃなど、生活に必要なものを買うために使われています。
以下のワークシートで、これらの知識を復習しました。
They all gave reasonable explanations for their answer choices. Some said that teachers don’t help babies grow directly because they are not like moms. Others said that babies do not help with learning because learning is difficult and babies cannot read. We always emphasize to the students that there is never a wrong answer. As long as they can explain the reasoning behind what they say, then it is correct!
クラスのみんなは、それぞれの答えに対して合理的な説明をしてくれました。中には、先生はお母さんとは違うので、赤ちゃんの成長を直接助けることはできない、という子もいました。また、赤ちゃんは字も読めないので、学習することができない、という子もいました。保育者の私たちは、「間違った答えは決してないですよ」、と常に子ども達に伝えています。理由を説明できる限り、それは正解なのです！
We celebrated the births of two of our students at the beginning of the week. We wish them both all the happiness and joy the world has to offer! They enjoyed playing fukuwarai with celebrants from other classes, which made the celebration even more special and fun.
今週初めに、2人のお友達の誕生を祝いました。2人のお友達に幸せと喜びが訪れますように！他のクラスのお祝いの人たちと福笑いをして楽しんだおかげで、お祝いはさらに特別で楽しいものになりました。
For our phonics lesson we learned about the “ug” and “un” consonant blends.
フォニックスのレッスンでは、「ug」と「un」の子音連結について学びました。
They came across many of the words they had learned during the phonics lesson when they read My Pug Has Fun in their reading lesson. It was truly a full-circle moment, and it was wonderful to see the students recognizing familiar words and realizing how their learning connects across different lessons.
フォニックスレッスンで習った単語の多くは、リーディングレッスンで読んだ「My Pug Has Fun」にも繰り返し出てきました。子どもたちが馴染みのある単語に気づき、学んだことが複数のレッスンでどのようにつながっているかに気づいていく様子は、とても素晴らしいものでした。
To commemorate Setsubun, they made a ‘bag craft’ to put the beans they will use to chase away the ogre. Their creative and artistic skills shone as they drew the ogre’s facial features and made its horns. They also practiced their fine motor skills by threading string through the holes in the bag to secure the edges.
節分を記念して、鬼を追い払う豆を入れる「豆袋」を作りました。鬼の顔を描いたり、角を作ったりと、子どもたちの創造力と芸術的な技が光りました✨ また、袋の穴に紐を通して縁を留めるなど、微細運動能力も鍛えられました。
