No more waiting for summer, it’s here! To combat the summer heat, Shooting Star students enjoyed mud play in the schoolyard. Mud play offers a wide range of benefits for 4–5-year-olds, supporting their development across physical, cognitive, social, and emotional domains. Mud play stimulates the sense of touch, smell, and even hearing (squelching sounds). It encourages imaginative thinking (e.g., making mud pies, building volcanoes). Digging, scooping, pouring, and molding mud strengthen hand muscles and coordination. Running, jumping, or balancing in a muddy space builds gross motor control. Children often engage in shared play, taking turns with tools, planning mud creations together, or role-playing. They practice communication, negotiation, and teamwork. Mud play is naturally calming and joyful. It offers a safe space to express feelings, reduce stress, and just “be messy” without pressure.🤽

夏を待つ必要はもうありません、ついにやってきました！暑い夏に負けないように、Shooting Starの子どもたちは園庭で泥遊びを楽しみました。泥遊びは4〜5歳の子どもたちにとって、多くの面で発達をサポートする素晴らしい活動です。感覚面では、触覚、嗅覚、そして「ぐちゃぐちゃ」という音を通して聴覚も刺激されます。想像力も育まれ、「泥だんご」や「火山づくり」などのごっこ遊びが展開されました。掘る、すくう、注ぐ、形を作るといった活動は、手の筋肉や調整力を強化します。ぬかるんだ場所で走る、跳ぶ、バランスを取ることで、大きな動き（粗大運動）のコントロールも育ちます。道具の順番を待ったり、一緒に泥の作品を作ったり、役割遊びをしたりする中で、子どもたちは自然とコミュニケーション力、交渉力、チームワークを学んでいます。泥遊びは、気持ちを落ち着かせ、喜びを感じられる活動でもあります。自由に「汚れてもいい」空間で、安心して感情を表現し、ストレスを発散することができます。🤽

In our Phonics lesson, we continued to learn reading CVC words and this time we read /-ad/ words such as dad, mad, sad, lad, bad, and pad. We had fun reading while doing the read and roll activity. Everyone says “Roll the dice!” and then we read the corresponding words on the list. They also enjoyed reading while moving their bodies by stomping their feet when saying the sounds and jumping when it’s time to say the word. This week we also finished writing lowercase letter “c”.📖✍️

フォニックスのレッスンでは、引き続きCVCワードの読みを学び、今回は「-ad」の単語（dad, mad, sad, lad, bad, pad）を読みました。サイコロを振って出た番号の単語を読む「Read and Roll（読んで・振って）」のアクティビティをしながら楽しく学びました。「Roll the dice!（サイコロを振って！）」の掛け声で盛り上がりながら、足を踏み鳴らしたり、ジャンプしたりと、体を使いながら音読を楽しみました。また、小文字の「c」の書き取りも今週で終わりました。📖✍️

Shooting Star students took home an interview sheet for their family members to talk about why they need to do their roles for their family and asked them what they can do to help them. Each student stood in front to present their interview and understood the importance of each family member’s roles. Thank you dear parents for working on it with your children!🙏

Shooting Starの子どもたちは、家族の一員としての役割についてのインタビューシートを持ち帰りました。家族の中でそれぞれがどんな役割を果たしているのか、また子どもたちがどんな手伝いができるのかを話し合いました。そして、インタビューの内容をみんなの前で発表し、家族一人ひとりの役割の大切さを理解することができました。保護者の皆さま、ご協力ありがとうございました！🙏(時間が足りず、来週発表予定のお友達もいます）

Next week, we’re going to reflect on our unit of inquiry and have an interview about what they learned. We will also make a toy for water play using a plastic bottle which we asked them to bring from home. It’s gonna be another fun and exciting week for Shooting Star students!
