Welcome back everyone! We hope you had a great Obon holiday!
みなさん、おかえりなさい！楽しいお盆休みを過ごされたことと思います。

Shooting Star students came back with interesting stories to tell about what they did during Obon. Each of them shared to the class the beautiful memories they made with their families. After sharing their stories, they drew it on a construction paper. They tried their best to make it as beautiful as they could. “I watched fireworks. I went to my grandparents’ house. I went to Okinawa. I went to the beach.” are some of their fun memories.

Shooting Starさんたちは、お盆休み中に体験したことについて楽しい話をたくさん聞かせてくれました。家族と一緒に過ごした素敵な思い出をクラスのみんなと共有しました。そして、その思い出を画用紙に描きました。それぞれができる限りきれいに描こうと頑張っていました。「花火を見たよ」「おじいちゃんおばあちゃんの家に行ったよ」「沖縄に行ったよ」「海に行ったよ」など、楽しいエピソードがたくさんありました。

Since Monday, we have been focused on practicing for the Sports Festival. Shooting Star class is going to present Japan’s Fireworks Festival. They will perform using a paraballoon with the song “Try Everything”. Everyone has been a good listener and cooperative during our practices. We also made fireworks craft that we will use to decorate the gym on the Sports Fest. We used cupcake liners to make fireworks effects.  They chose the design and color they wanted and  flattened their cupcake liners and made cuts (fringe) on the ribbed part of the liner. We stopped cutting when we reached the inside circle of the cupcake liner. Finally, they glued the cupcake liners to the piece of paper and let them dry. 

月曜日からは、運動会の練習に取り組んでいます。Shooting Starクラスは「日本の花火大会」をテーマに発表をします。パラバルーンを使って、「Try Everything」の曲に合わせてパフォーマンスを行います。みんな話をよく聞いて協力しながら練習に取り組んでいます。

また、運動会のジムを飾るために、花火のクラフトも作りました。カップケーキ用の紙を使って、花火の模様を作りました。子どもたちは自分の好きなデザインと色を選び、紙を平らにして、外側のギザギザ部分に切り込み（フリンジ）を入れました。切るのは、紙の内側の円までで止め、最後にそれを紙に貼り付けて乾かしました。

This week is very special because we had our afternoon circle open day wherein parents can come to the classroom and observe their children. We made it more special for them because we had a pizza party together. In the morning, we harvested tomatoes and basil from our garden which we used as toppings for our pizza. With the help of our kitchen staff, they baked it in the oven during nap time and we all enjoyed eating them for snack. Everyone had fun making the pizza as bakers. They said that they made snacks for everyone. They are so proud of the pizza they made and very happy seeing their parents eat the pizza they made. Thank you Shooting Star parents for coming on this special day and for your continued support.

今週はとても特別な一週間でした。なぜなら、「アフタヌーンサークル・オープンデー」があり、保護者の皆様に教室に来ていただき、お子さまの様子をご覧いただく機会があったからです。この日をもっと特別なものにするために、みんなでピザパーティーを行いました。

午前中には、園のガーデンで育てたトマトとバジルを収穫し、それをピザのトッピングとして使いました。給食室のスタッフの皆さんのご協力で、お昼寝の時間にオーブンで焼いてもらい、おやつの時間にみんなで美味しくいただきました。

子どもたちはピザ作りに挑戦し、「自分たちが作ったおやつだよ！」と嬉しそうに話してくれました。自分たちで作ったピザをお父さんやお母さんが食べてくれる姿を見て、とても誇らしそうで、幸せそうな表情をしていました。

Shooting Starクラスの保護者の皆さま、この特別な日にご参加いただき、また、いつも温かいご支援をありがとうございます。

We had an August birthday party this week and one of our friends celebrated his 5th birthday. We hope you had a wonderful birthday. Happy Birthday!!!

今週は8月のお誕生日会があり、お友だちの一人が5歳のお誕生日を迎えました。素敵なお誕生日になったことと思います。お誕生日おめでとう！

Next week, we will continue to explore LOI2: the reasons why people help each other in the community. On Wednesday, we had a chance to talk and ask questions to one of our kitchen staff and we learned she helped the school community because she wants everyone to eat a lot and grow up strong and healthy. Someone asked “Why do you cook meals that help everyone feel better and stay healthy? She answered, “I know everyone is working hard practicing for the sports day right now, so I prepare meals with the hope that you can all stay energetic and do your best every day.” Hearing those words made them feel more motivated to practice harder for the Sports Festival. Thank you so much to our kitchen staff for making delicious lunch everyday. We will do our best to finish our food everyday.

来週も引き続き、探究テーマ「なぜ人はコミュニティで助け合うのか（LOI2）」について学んでいきます。水曜日には、給食室のスタッフの方とお話する機会があり、いろいろな質問をしました。スタッフの方は、「みんながたくさん食べて、元気に大きくなってほしいから、学校のコミュニティのために働いています」と教えてくれました。

「どうしてみんなの体にいいごはんを作ってくれるの？」という質問には、「今みんなが運動会の練習をがんばっているのを知っているので、元気に毎日がんばれるように、そんな思いを込めて作っています」と答えてくださいました。その言葉を聞いて、子どもたちはもっと練習をがんばろう！という気持ちになったようです。

毎日おいしい給食を作ってくださっている給食スタッフの皆さん、本当にありがとうございます。これからも残さず、しっかり食べられるようにがんばります！

We will have a Sports Festival rehearsal next Wednesday and we will find time to practice everyday. It would be great if everyone is present and be able to join the practice with their friends. Our pool play activity will be finished next Friday. We will enjoy the last week of the pool play, so please don’t forget to bring your swimsuit.
