みなさん、こんにちは！
「秋」の足音が（やっと）聞こえてきました。朝晩の冷え込みや虫の音、そして紅葉の始まり・・子ども達もその機微な変化を肌身で感じとっています。日本の四季はどの季節も美しく魅力的ですね。レインボー達にもどんぐり拾いや紅葉狩り、葡萄や栗の味覚等に触れ「秋」を満喫して欲しいと思っています。先日バスで行った公園ではトンボが舞い、木々の色付きや実り(ヤマボウシ）が始まっていました。
Hello everyone!
We can finally hear the sounds of “autumn” approaching. The cooler temperatures in the mornings and evenings, the sounds of insects, and the beginning of the changing leaves—our children are already noticing these subtle changes in nature. The four seasons in Japan are all beautiful and charming. We hope that the Rainbows will enjoy autumn by picking acorns, going on leaf-viewing outings, and experiencing the flavors of grapes and chestnuts. During our recent bus trip to the park, we saw dragonflies flying around, and the trees were starting to change color and bear fruit (such as dogwood berries).
今月のトピックは「形」です。今週は形合わせのゲームをしました。自分の持つカード（半分）のもう一方の片割れをお互いに探し合い、マッチングさせるものです。「あった！」「四角だ！」などと次々に声が上がりました。子ども達はもう様々な形の名称（英語）を覚え、日常的に使えるようになっています。（長方形（Rectangle)なんて、私は人生の後半で知りましたが・・（汗））中でも丸やハート形、星型は子ども達にも馴染が深く、日常の生活中にもたくさん見つけることができます。例えば、おやつや、タイヤなど丸いものを見つけると”サークル！”と教えてくれます。
This month’s topic is “Shapes.” This week, we played a shape-matching game. Each child had half of a shape card, and they had to find their partner who had the other half to complete the shape. Excited shouts of “I found it!” and “It’s a square!” could be heard all around. The children have already learned the names of various shapes in English and can use them naturally in everyday conversation. (I only learned what a “rectangle” was later in life…!) Shapes like circles, hearts, and stars are especially familiar to our children, and they can easily find examples of them in their daily lives. For example, when they see something round, like a snack or a tire, they’ll point it out and say, “It’s a circle!”
ある日、Ms.Marlynがみんなのここ（心臓のあたり）にもハートがあるんだよ！と教えてくれました。すると子ども達は自分のＴシャツのどこかにハート型が見つけられるものと信じ探し出そうとしていました。何と愛らしい姿でしょう！心臓（心）は全ての人の中にあり、目には見えないけれど、自分を大事にしたり、人に優しくしたり、誰かを思いやる気持ちであること、それが愛であり、その形こそがMs.Marlynが教えてくれたハートの形であることに、いつか子ども達も気付く日がきます。楽しみですね。自分のことをそっちのけに、お友だちの世話をやき、時には喧嘩もするけれど、いつも優しい気持ちで互いに思い合うレインボー達の姿は全てがハートの形に見えます💛見る者も幸せにするハート型の集団、それがレインボー達です！
One day, Ms. Marlyn told our children, “Everyone has a heart right here!” (pointing to their chest). Our children then started searching their T-shirts, believing they would find a heart shape somewhere on them! How adorable! The heart (or spirit) exists within everyone; it’s invisible, yet it represents caring for oneself, being kind to others, and having compassion. That is love, and the shape of that love is the heart that Ms. Marlyn described. I’m sure our children will realize this one day. It’s wonderful to see! The Rainbows, who put others before themselves, take care of their friends, and even sometimes argue, but always with kindness and consideration—their actions all look like a heart. They are a group of hearts that brings happiness to everyone who sees them! 💛
フォニックス（アルファベット）の学習も進んでいます。大好きなABCソングに続き、「抜けている文字は何？」というゲームを楽しみました。A/B/C/D/E/F/G はほとんどの子ども達が認識し、その音を聞き分けています！
Our phonics (alphabet) learning is progressing well. Following our favorite ABC song, we enjoyed a game where we had to identify the missing letter. Most of the children can now recognize the letters A, B, C, D, E, F, and G, and can distinguish their sounds!
今週もジムレッスンや外遊びで、思い切り身体を動かし、心を動かしたレインボーさんでした。
This week, Rainbows had a great time exercising and playing outdoors, both physically and mentally, through gym classes and outdoor activities.
