The cold weather hasn’t slowed us down! Nearly everyone is here every day, and we usually find some time to run and play in the bracing winter air- WITH sunshine or without! A few signs of the coming spring, and celebrations in Japan (SETSUBUN) and North America (Groundhog Day) to mark the mid-point between the shortest day of winter and the Vernal Equinox (OHIGAN) have some fun and interesting traditions…
節分の日を境に、春の訪れが来るといわれています。北米では、グラウンドホッグデー（２月の初旬頃、グラウンドホッグという動物が冬眠を終えて地上に出てくると言われているそうで、春の訪れを予想する天気占いの行事の日）という、日本の節分のような行事もあるようです。毎日、寒い日が続きますが、先週も元気に活動をしました！　１月生まれのお子様、お誕生日おめでとうございます☆
Morning circleでは、１月のMonthly Song “Frosty the Snowman”を教室中に響き渡る声で歌い、１月から２人チームで、カレンダーもお互い協力して堂々と行っている様子です。Dance lessonに、Swimming lesson、また、Music lessonでは、お父さん、お母さんが普段の様子を観に来てくださいました！お忙しい中、お越しいただき、ありがとうございました。クラスでは、皆が楽しみにしているShow&Tellを、今までは、先生が隣にいる状況でしたが、１人で皆の前に立ち、行いはじめました。皆の前でも、普段通りお話できる子もいれば、照れている様子で、いつもより言葉が少なくなる子もいますが、お家で皆に紹介したいものを考えて選び、笑顔で皆の前に立ちShow&Tellをする一人ひとりの姿に日々感動してしまいます。２月に予定しておりますSchool Open Dayでは、時間の関係で、通常よりも短い時間のShow&Tellとなります。実際にShow&Tellをしている姿だけでなく、お友達のShow&Tellをしている時に聞いたり、質問したりするお子様を観て頂ければと思います。来週からは、少し時間を意識してShow&Tellを行う予定です。
週の終わりには、スクールで節分の行事を行いました。鬼が現れるのを、今か今かと待っている子どもたち。新聞紙を丸めたボールを手に持ち、鬼めがけて、楽しそうに新聞紙ボールを投げていました。鬼を怖がるお子さんには、鬼がいなくなったら、福（幸せ）がたくさん来ることを伝え、”Demons, get OUT of here! Happiness come in!”と皆で繰り返し言い合いました。
