This week, our young inquirers took a big step in developing their research skills through an exciting “I Wonder” question: Why is plastic a problem?
To begin, the children were introduced to two sources of information: a non-fiction book and a short, age-appropriate YouTube video. With curious minds and listening ears, they explored both references to find the answers they were looking for. We guided them to pick out important ideas and think deeply about what they learned.
Once they gathered their information, the children expressed their understanding creatively by drawing their answers on paper. Their illustrations reflected powerful messages—pictures of sea animals caught in plastic, trash floating in oceans, pandas that ate plastic and died, and people who are disappointed and angry because of the dirty water.

まず、子どもたちは2つの情報源、ノンフィクションの本と、年齢に合わせた短いYouTube動画を紹介されました。好奇心旺盛な子どもたちは、両方の情報源をじっくりと調べ、探し求めている答えを見つけました。私たちは、子どもたちが重要なアイデアを拾い上げ、学んだことを深く考えることができるよう導きました。
情報を集めた後、子どもたちは紙に答えを描き、理解したことを創造的に表現しました。描いたイラストには、プラスチックに絡まった海の生き物、海に浮かぶゴミ、プラスチックを食べて死んだパンダ、汚れた水に失望し怒りを感じている人々など、力強いメッセージが込められていました。
The next day, it was time to share their findings! Each student presented their drawing and explained the answer to the I wonder question using their own words. They practiced speaking clearly and confidently in front of their classmates.
翌日は、発見したことを発表する時間でした！生徒たちはそれぞれ描いた絵を発表し、「I Wonder（何だろう）」という質問の答えを自分の言葉で説明しました。クラスメイトの前で、はっきりと自信を持って話す練習もしました。
To extend their thinking even further, the children practiced paraphrasing—listening to a friend’s presentation and then rephrasing what they heard in their own words. This helped them improve listening, comprehension, and communication skills all at once!
It was a fantastic week of learning how to research, think critically, and express ideas thoughtfully. We’re so proud of our young researchers!

Outside Play
Water play is not only a great way to cool down during the hot days—it’s also a fantastic opportunity for children to explore, experiment, and build social skills. We observed them pouring, scooping, splashing, and even creating their mini water games with friends. We saw wonderful moments of teamwork, curiosity, and creative thinking. It was heartwarming to see the children so engaged and joyful, using their imaginations and senses in a playful and meaningful way.
This week was rain and shine, so we couldn’t play in the water on some days. We also played a game of catchball while waiting for the bus to come.
水遊びは、暑い日に涼をとるのに最適な方法であるだけでなく、子どもたちが探索したり、実験したり、社会性を育んだりする素晴らしい機会でもあります。子どもたちが水を注いだり、すくったり、水をはねかけたり、友達とミニ水遊びをしたりする様子を観察しました。チームワーク、好奇心、そして創造的思考が光る素晴らしい瞬間を目にしました。子どもたちが想像力と感覚を遊び心と意義深い方法で駆使し、夢中になって楽しんでいる姿は、本当に心温まるものでした。
今週は雨の日も晴れの日もあったので、水遊びができない日もありました。バスを待つ間、キャッチボールもしました。
