As part of our Plant Unit, we learned about the different parts of a plant and a tree—from the roots that hold the plant firmly in the ground to the leaves that help it make food. We discussed how understanding the structure of a plant helps us know how it grows and stays healthy.
To bring our learning to life, we created our very own tree diorama! Using a real tree branch as the trunk, the children added colored tissue paper to make leaves, branches, flowers, and even fruits. Everyone worked carefully and creatively, turning simple materials into a beautiful, realistic tree model.
Through this hands-on activity, the students not only deepened their understanding of plants but also expressed their creativity and teamwork. Our classroom forest of dioramas reminded us how amazing nature is—and how important it is to care for it! 🌱💚
植物ユニットでは、植物を地面にしっかりと固定する根から、栄養を作る葉まで、植物や木の様々な部分について学びました。植物の構造を理解することで、植物がどのように成長し、健康を維持するかを理解できるようになることについて話し合いました。
学んだことをより身近に感じてもらうために、オリジナルの木のジオラマを作りました！本物の木の枝を幹に見立て、子どもたちは色付きのティッシュペーパーで葉や枝、花、そして実まで作りました。子どもたちは皆、丁寧に、そして創造的に作業し、シンプルな材料から美しくリアルな木の模型を作り上げていきました。
この体験型アクティビティを通して、生徒たちは植物への理解を深めただけでなく、創造性とチームワークを発揮しました。教室に作られたジオラマの森は、自然の素晴らしさ、そして自然を大切にすることの大切さを改めて教えてくれました！🌱💚
Planting Nobi Nobi-kun 🌱
To add to our plant exploration, we also planted Nobi Nobi-kun in a planter outside! The children were so excited to see how much he had grown. We noticed that his roots were already coming out, which means he needed more space to grow strong and healthy.
We learned that roots play a very important role—they are the ones that drink water and take nutrients from the soil to help the plant grow. By planting Nobi Nobi-kun in the soil, we are giving him a bigger home and all the nutrients he needs to grow even more!
The students are now eager to observe Nobi Nobi-kun’s growth over time and take care of him every day. This hands-on experience helped them understand how living things grow and how we can help them thrive. 🌿💧
植物の観察をさらに深めるため、のびのびくんを外のプランターに植えました！子どもたちは、のびのびくんが大きくなったのを見て大喜びでした。すでに根が出てきていたので、強く健やかに育つにはもっと広いスペースが必要だということがわかりました。
根は、植物の成長に必要な水分や栄養分を土から吸収する、とても重要な役割を担っていることを学びました。のびのびくんを土に植えることで、より広い住処と、さらに成長するために必要な栄養分を与えているのです！
生徒たちは、のびのびくんの成長をじっくり観察し、毎日お世話をすることに意欲的です。この体験を通して、生き物がどのように成長するのか、そして私たちがどのようにその成長を支えられるのかを理解することができました。🌿💧
Learning to Tell Time ⏰
We also had lots of fun learning about telling time! The children learned how to identify the hour hand and the minute hand on a clock. To help us read the minutes more easily, we practiced skip counting by 5s together. Everyone enjoyed counting out loud and noticing how the numbers on the clock go around in a pattern.
To make our learning more active (and a little silly!), we worked with a partner to make a human clock! One student became the hour hand and the other became the minute hand—depending on who was shorter or taller. Lying down on the floor and moving our arms to show different times helped us communicate, cooperate, and understand time in a fun, hands-on way.
Learning time has never been this exciting! 🕒✨
時間の読み方を学ぶのもとても楽しかったです！子どもたちは時計の長針と短針の見分け方を学びました。分を読みやすくするために、5ずつスキップして数える練習をしました。みんな声に出して数を数えたり、時計の数字が規則的に回る様子を観察したりして楽しんでいました。
よりアクティブに（そして少し楽しく！）学習を進めるために、パートナーと協力して人間時計を作りました。身長が低い子と高い子で、片方が短針、もう片方が分針になりました。床に寝転がって腕を動かし、異なる時間を示すことで、楽しく実践的な方法でコミュニケーションを取り、協力し、時間を理解することができました。
こんなに楽しい学習時間はありませんでした！🕒✨
Open Day: Learning Together in Phonics!
Today was such a special day in our classroom — our Open Day! 🌟 We were so happy to welcome our parents to join us and see how much fun learning can be.
During our Phonics lesson, we explored how to count syllables in words in three fun ways:
👏 Clapping the beats we hear,
✋ Putting our hand under our chin to feel how many times it drops, and
🎵 Humming to notice the sound breaks in each word.
The children were so excited and it was heartwarming to see parents join in — clapping, humming, and smiling together!
We are truly grateful to all the parents who took the time to come and be part of our learning today. Your support and participation make our classroom a joyful place to grow and learn. 💛
