The highlight of our week was our exciting trip to our friend’s family farm for sweet potato harvesting! Before we started digging, the farmer showed us the soybeans we planted during the summer. Unfortunately, we couldn’t harvest them because the deer had eaten them all! But instead of feeling sad, we understood that the deer must have been hungry and needed something to eat. We were actually happy knowing that we could feed them. 🦌💚

今週一番の思い出は、お友達の家族の農園でサツマイモ掘りをしたことです！掘り始める前に、農家の方が夏に私たちが植えた大豆を見せてくれました。残念ながら、鹿に全部食べられてしまっていて収穫はできませんでしたが、私たちは悲しい気持ちになるどころか、鹿もお腹が空いていて何か食べるものが必要だったんだなと理解しました。むしろ、鹿たちに食べ物を提供できたことを嬉しく思いました。🦌💚

After that, it was time for sweet potato harvesting! Each of us was given one sweet potato plant to dig and harvest from. With our hands and little shovels, we carefully dug into the soil, discovering how deep the roots went. It took patience and teamwork, but we enjoyed every bit of it—and wanted to keep going!

It felt like playing a surprise or mystery game. Every time we spotted a root, we couldn’t help but dig more, wondering if another sweet potato was hiding underneath. Some were small, some were big—but each one felt like a treasure we worked hard to find!

その後は、サツマイモの収穫の時間です！一人ずつサツマイモの苗が割り当てられ、そこから掘り出して収穫しました。私たちは手と小さなシャベルを使って、土を丁寧に掘り進め、根がどれくらい深く伸びているのかを確かめました。根気とチームワークが必要でしたが、私たちはそのすべてを楽しみ、もっと続けたいと思いました！

まるでサプライズゲームや宝探しをしているような気分でした。根を見つけるたびに、その下に別のサツマイモが隠れているのではないかと期待して、ついついもっと掘り進めてしまいました。小さいものもあれば大きいものもありましたが、一つ一つが苦労して見つけた宝物のように感じました！

This fun field trip was part of our plant unit, where we’ve been learning about the different parts of a plant. We discovered that roots can also bear fruits—just like sweet potatoes! It was a wonderful hands-on experience that helped us see how learning can happen beyond the classroom.

Back at school, we left our harvested sweet potatoes by the entrance of the campus building to dry. We’ll wait over the weekend before taking them home—but we’ll need to wait another two weeks before eating them so we can savor their overloaded sweetness! 🍠😋

We want to give a big thank-you to our friend’s family for welcoming us to their farm and letting us experience this wonderful adventure. Through their kindness, we learned so much more about plants and how they help us—and even how they can help animals too! 🌾✨

この楽しい校外学習は、植物の各部分について学んでいる私たちの植物単元の一環でした。私たちは、サツマイモのように根にも実がなることを発見しました！教室の外で学ぶことの大切さを実感できる、素晴らしい体験でした。

学校に戻ってから、収穫したサツマイモを校舎の入り口に置いて乾かしました。週末までそのままにしておき、それから家に持ち帰ります。でも、甘みが十分に増すまであと2週間待ってから食べる予定です！🍠😋 私たちを農園に招き、この素晴らしい体験をさせてくださった友人のご家族に心から感謝しています。

ご家族のご厚意のおかげで、私たちは植物について、そして植物が私たちや動物たちにどのように役立っているのかについて、たくさんのことを学ぶことができました！🌾✨
