Nagano Milky Way: We Are Communicators (April 21st-25th)

What is communication?

We defined communication as talking. But after our discussion, a reflection on our daily life experience, and a game, we have understood that communication isn’t only talking but listening and understanding as well. It is a two-way process. To fully understand this discussion, we played a game called “Pass the Message”. We lined up and whispered the message sent by our teacher to the person in front of us until the message reached the last person in line. The last person had to shout out the message. We could say that the communication was effective if the last person was able to say the original message. It was our first time doing this activity, so we struggled delivering the right message to the last person in line. We hope to do better next time.

コミュニケーションとは何か？

私たちはコミュニケーションを「話すこと」と定義しました。しかし、ディスカッション、日常生活の振り返り、そしてゲームを通して、コミュニケーションとは話すことだけでなく、聞くこと、理解することも含まれることを理解しました。これは双方向のプロセスです。このディスカッションをより深く理解するために、「メッセージを渡す」というゲームをしました。私たちは一列に並び、先生から送られたメッセージを前の人にささやき、最後尾の人に届くまで伝えます。最後尾の人は、メッセージを大声で伝えなければなりません。最後尾の人が元のメッセージを言えれば、コミュニケーションは効果的だったと言えるのです。このアクティビティは初めてだったので、最後尾の人に正しいメッセージを伝えるのに苦労しました。次回はもっとうまくできるといいですね。
