We safely arrived in Sydney and checked into our hotel.
The temperature upon arrival was 26°C—definitely warmer than Japan!

After dropping off our luggage, we headed to a café in the mall right in front of the hotel for lunch. While enjoying light meals such as milkshakes, chicken nuggets, and fries, we held our orientation session.

During the orientation, students introduced themselves, and it was their first time meeting in person after only seeing each other online or in photos. Although some appeared a bit nervous at first, it was wonderful to see them gradually open up and connect with one another.

We also reviewed important information such as bedtime routines and local transportation rules, and briefly discussed differences between Japan and Sydney.

Afterward, students had some time to relax in their rooms—taking showers and organizing their suitcases. We had an early dinner and went to bed early to rest up for the busy days ahead. Some students were also seen visiting a nearby supermarket to buy snacks and souvenirs, already enjoying their overseas experience.

The next day marked the official start of our activities.
We began the morning with breakfast, enjoying fruits, yogurt, cereal, and croissants purchased from the supermarket. During breakfast, we reviewed the day’s schedule and set individual goals—a routine we will continue throughout our stay in Sydney.

In the morning, we participated in a debate training session at the Deep Dive classroom. The topic was: “Should schools provide school lunches?”
Many students were new to debate, but despite some challenges, everyone worked hard to form and express their own opinions with great focus and determination.

For lunch, we enjoyed Vietnamese-style banh mi sandwiches. In the afternoon, we headed to one of Sydney’s most iconic landmarks—the Sydney Opera House. We traveled by train, and the students were especially excited about riding in a double-decker train. Sitting on the upper level on the way there and the lower level on the return made the journey itself part of the fun.

At the Opera House, we joined a fully English-guided tour. During the one-hour tour, students listened attentively, took photos, and even challenged themselves to ask questions in English. Some students asked more than six questions, demonstrating impressive enthusiasm and initiative.

Dinner was enjoyed at a restaurant with a breathtaking view of Sydney Harbour, the Harbour Bridge, and the Opera House. Students tried a variety of dishes without hesitation and thoroughly enjoyed their meals.

In the evening, students managed their own routines responsibly, including taking medication and handling contact lenses. After some relaxing time, everyone went to bed at 9:00 PM. It was also lovely to see friendships deepen across different campuses.

Tomorrow, we will continue our debate practice in the morning, followed by a ferry ride to Taronga Zoo. Although the schedule was adjusted due to weather conditions, the students are excited about traveling by ferry.

無事にシドニーへ到着し、宿泊ホテルにチェックインしました。
到着した際のシドニーの最高気温は26℃！やはり日本よりもまだまだ暑いです！

到着後は荷物を預け、まずはホテル目の前のモール内にあるカフェでランチタイム。ミルクシェイクやチキンナゲット、ポテトフライなど、それぞれ軽食を楽しみながら、ツアーのオリエンテーションを行いました。
オリエンテーションでは、まずお互いに自己紹介を行い、オンラインや写真でしか見たことのなかったメンバー同士が初めて対面する機会となりました。少し緊張した様子もありながら、次第に打ち解けていく姿が印象的でした。
その後、就寝時間や交通ルールなどシドニーでの過ごし方について確認し、日本との違いについても簡単に話し合いました。
その後は各自お部屋でシャワーを浴びたり、スーツケースの整理をしたりと、ゆったりとした時間を過ごしました。夕食は早めに済ませ、明日からの活動に備えて体力回復を優先し、早めの就寝となりました。
また、近くのスーパーマーケットでは、翌日以降のスナックやお土産を購入する姿も見られ、海外での生活を早速楽しんでいる様子でした。

翌日～Day 1～は朝から活動スタート。
スーパーで購入したフルーツやヨーグルト、シリアル、クロワッサンなどを囲みながら朝食をとり、その日のスケジュール確認と「個人目標」を設定しました。この習慣はシドニー滞在中毎日行っていきます。
午前中はDeep Diveのクラスルームにて、ディベート練習に取り組みました。テーマは「スクールは給食を提供するべきか」。ディベートに慣れていない生徒も多く、悩みながらも一生懸命自分の意見を考え、全員が真剣に取り組んでいました。
ランチは手軽にバインミーサンドイッチを楽しみ、午後はいよいよシドニーの象徴であるオペラハウスへ。今回はオーストラリアの電車に乗って移動し、2階建ての車両に大興奮。行きは2階、帰りは1階と、移動そのものも楽しみの一つとなっていました。
オペラハウスでは全編英語のツアーに参加。約1時間のツアーの中で、ガイドの説明を熱心に聞きながら写真撮影を行い、最後には一人ひとりが英語で質問に挑戦しました。中には6つ以上質問する生徒もおり、積極的な姿勢がとても印象的でした。
夕食は、目の前にシドニーハーバーとハーバーブリッジ、そしてオペラハウスが広がる素晴らしいロケーションのレストランでいただきました。どの生徒も好き嫌いなく様々な料理に挑戦し、しっかりと食事を楽しんでいました。
夜は21時には就寝。就寝前にはリラックスした時間もあり、キャンパスを越えた交流もさらに深まっています。
明日は午前中にディベート練習を継続した後、フェリーに乗ってTaronga Zooへ向かいます。天候の関係で日程が変更となりましたが、生徒たちはフェリーでの移動も楽しみにしています。
