Nakano Grade 3/4/5 – Seasonal Changes and plants (February 16nd– 20th)

This week, our focus was entirely on plants and how different seasons affect plant life.

At the beginning of the week, students prepared individual presentations about the seasons and how each season affects plants. They explained how temperature, sunlight, and weather conditions influence plant growth and appearance. Students shared examples such as flowers blooming in spring, strong growth in summer, leaves changing color in autumn, and slowed growth or dormancy in winter. This project helped them practice research skills, organizing information, and speaking clearly in front of an audience.

Throughout the week, we introduced and practiced new vocabulary, including evergreen, deciduous, perennial, annual, dormancy, and life cycle. Students learned how evergreen plants keep their leaves all year, while deciduous plants shed their leaves seasonally. We also discussed how some plants live for many years, while others complete their life cycle in a single season.

At the end of the week, students created a plant poster project. On their posters, they visually showed how plant appearance changes across seasons, labeled important parts, and included key vocabulary. This allowed them to demonstrate their understanding in a clear and creative way.

By focusing closely on plants this week, students strengthened their understanding of how seasonal patterns directly influence living things.
