Reviewing Our English Grammar

This week we took time to review the grammar lessons we have been working on throughout the unit. The students looked back at several important topics and practiced using them through classroom discussion.

今週は、これまでのユニットで学んできた文法の内容をふり返り、クラス全体での話し合いを通して復習を行いました。

We began with prefixes, learning how adding letters to the beginning of a word can change its meaning. We also reviewed how to use the apostrophe for possessives, making sure students can tell the difference between plural nouns and nouns that show ownership.

まず接頭辞について学び、単語の前に文字を加えることで意味がどのように変わるのかを確認しました。また、所有を表すアポストロフィの使い方を復習し、複数形の名詞と所有を示す名詞を区別できるようにしました。

Another focus was on determiners, the small but powerful words like a, the, this, and some that give us more detail about nouns. We also practiced identifying main clauses and subordinate clauses, which helped students see how sentences can be built with more than one part.

次に、a、the、this、some といった名詞を修飾する小さな言葉「限定詞」について確認しました。また、主節と従属節を見分ける練習を行い、文が複数の部分から成り立つことを理解しました。

In addition to our review, we also had a lesson about suffixes, exploring how adding endings to words can change their meaning or word type.

復習に加えて、接尾辞についての学習も行い、単語の語尾を加えることで意味や品詞がどのように変わるかを探りました。

These review discussions helped bring together everything we have studied this unit and gave the students a clearer picture of how grammar works to make writing more accurate and effective.

これらの復習を通して、今回のユニットで学んだ内容を整理し、文法がどのように働いて文章をより正確で効果的にしているのかを、生徒たちはよりはっきりと理解することができました。

Practicing for FICTS Nagano 2025

This week our students have been preparing for their presentations at the 2025 FICTS Nagano International Sports Film Festival. After watching the documentary Maxim the Greatest – Disabled Skateboard, they discussed the film’s themes of perseverance, courage, and inclusivity.

Students then worked in groups to plan their presentations, creating short speeches and designing slides to show their ideas. They also rehearsed in front of the class, practicing clear speaking voices and eye contact while giving and receiving feedback.

With each practice, their confidence has grown. They are excited to share their reflections at the September 28 event, which will include filmmakers visiting from Thailand.

今週、生徒たちは2025年FICTS長野国際スポーツ映画祭での発表に向けて準備を進めました。ドキュメンタリー映画『Maxim the Greatest – Disabled Skateboard』を鑑賞した後、忍耐・勇気・多様性といったテーマについて話し合いました。

その後、グループに分かれて発表内容を計画し、短いスピーチとスライドを作成して自分たちの考えをまとめました。クラスの前でリハーサルも行い、はっきりとした話し方や視線の向け方を練習しながら、互いにフィードバックを交換しました。

練習を重ねるごとに自信がつき、9月28日の映画祭本番で自分たちの考えを発表することを楽しみにしています。タイから来日する映画制作者の前で披露する予定です。
