What is Global Warming or the greenhouse effect? These terms could be really mind boggling when children first hear about them. We spent this week discovering what global warming is, what caused it, and how it is affecting the world we live in. As the children touched the small ice chunk as a simulation of an iceberg in the arctic, they watched what is happening when the sun warms the two polars. How the greenhouse effect brought devastation to the lives of the animals and people alike. Most importantly, what can we do to help reverse the effects, or salvage the damage that has already been done. Through the discussions, the group and individual works, they learned a valuable lesson. Now they understand, if each of us do our part, we can contribute to cleaner and renewable energy instead of burning fossil fuels, deforestation, and creating more waste. Hopefully they will bring some changes in the house from this point on!
地球温暖化、温室効果って何？子どもたちが初めて耳にするこれらの言葉は、実に不可解なものかもしれません。 今週は、地球温暖化とは何か、その原因は何か、そして私たちの住む世界にどのような影響を及ぼしているのかを学びました。北極の氷山を模した小さな氷の塊に触れながら、太陽が地球を温めることで何が起こっているのかを見ていきました。温室効果によって、動物や人間の生活にどのような惨状がもたらされたのか。そして最も重要なことは、これから地球のために私たちに何ができるのかということです。ディスカッション、グループワーク、個人ワークを通じて、彼らは貴重な教訓を得ました。 私たち一人ひとりが自分の役割を果たせば、化石燃料の燃焼や森林破壊、廃棄物の増加の代わりに、よりクリーンで再生可能なエネルギーに貢献できることを理解したのです。これから家の中で何か変化が起こることを期待しています。
“What are you digging for?” I asked. “We are digging for fossils! rocks! And what is underground! Like a scientist!” the children responded. They really had fun working out on the playground this week. While some were having a party at the sandpit, others were busy having fun digging!
“何を掘っているの？” と聞いてみました。”化石を掘っているんだ！岩を！科学者みたいに！」と子どもたちは答えました。今週は、園庭で体を動かすことがとても楽しかったようです。砂場で遊ぶ子もいれば、掘ることに夢中になっていた子もいました。
What do we enjoy doing in our free play time? Nothing but to get together and have fun! The children have started to learn how to research things they are interested in cyberspace. They learned how to type into google search for various characters, dinosaurs, and topics that interest them. With the assistance of the teachers, they learned how to inquire on their own! Making crafts and being creative and silly are what we do best!
自由遊びの時間にみんなで集まって楽しく遊ぶことより楽しいことはありません！子どもたちは、パソコンコーナーで興味のあることを調べる方法を学び始めています。キャラクター、恐竜、トピックなど、自分の興味のあるものをGoogleで検索する方法を学びました。担任の手助けを得ながら、自分たちで調べられるようになりました。工作をしたり、クリエイティブで楽しいことをするのは、私たちの得意とするところです。
