No sweat no gain! The children had the “out of this world experience” with the sweet potatoes and rice harvest this week. They were thrilled when we went on the bus trip with the Canyon children. When they got to the field, they listened tentatively to the instructions on how to pull the sweet potatoes up. Their eyes were wide open as they watched the demonstration. However, as soon as they started digging around the sweet potatoes they realized it is hard work! Nonetheless, they did their best and the harvest was plentiful! The children also helped gather the rice bundles to be air dried. Just look at the photos of how hard it is to drag the rice bundles to the grown-ups! They were amazing! In the end we brought back at least 100 sweet potatoes of all various sizes. We hope the families enjoyed digging into those sweet potatoes!
汗をかかずに得られるものはない！今週はサツマイモ掘りと稲刈りの「異世界体験」をしました。キャニオンの子どもたちも加わり、明科までのバストリップ、みんなとても喜んでいました。畑に着くと、サツマイモの掘り方の説明のデモンストレーションを見ていたみんなの目は、とても大きく見開かれていました。きっと「できるかな〜？早くやってみたいな〜」などの考えが頭をよぎっていたのでしょう（笑）みんながサツマイモを掘り始めてすぐに、それが大変な作業であることに気づきました。それでもみんなは一生懸命掘り続け、たくさんのサツマイモを収穫できました！子どもたちもお米の稲を集めて干す作業のお手伝いもしました。稲の束を大人の人に渡すのがいかに大変か、下の写真を見てください！（笑）みんなの仕事っぷりは、素晴らしかったです！JAさんから、さまざまなサイズのサツマイモを少なくとも 100 個頂き、お家に数本持ち帰ることができ、ともて嬉しいです。ご家族でさつまいもを食べて楽しんでいただければ幸いです。
What were the children busy with this week? We started talking about Halloween in October and all the characters related to this holiday. The children were excited to learn to play the Halloween bingos and matching game. In UOI we started our new unit talking about the different ways of communication. In LOI 1 the children will learn all about the elements of a story and eventually learn to create their own books or play.
今週、子どもたちは何に忙しかったと思いますか？ 10 月のハロウィーンと、この祝日に関連するすべてのキャラクターについて話し始めました。子供たちは、ハロウィーンのビンゴやマッチングゲームを学ぶことに興奮していました. UOI では、さまざまなコミュニケーション方法について話し合う新しいユニットを開始しました。 LOI 1 では、子供たちは物語の要素をすべて学び、最終的には自分で本を作ったり、遊んだりすることを学びます。
Gym class is always a fun place to be. The children are learning how to be flexible and train their bodies to do all the gymnastic movements.

As autumn is upon us, we are excited to be able to walk to the parks and enjoy the crisp air. The children are getting better at walking longer distances and they are so excited to be able to move their bodies around in nature.
秋が近づいてきたので、公園まで歩きながらさわやかな空気を楽しむことができ、とてもわくわくしています。子どもたちは、より長い距離を歩くのが上手になりました。自然の中で体を動かすことができることにとても興奮しています！
In continuation to our discussion about autumn and all the things related to this season, we cut open our second pumpkin for the children to observe. This time with the purpose of carving pumpkins. The children are reminded that a pumpkin consists of skin, flesh, seeds, and pulp and they are grown from seeds. The children now know the difference between a pumpkin and the term “Jack-O-Lantern”. They recognize that a pumpkin refers to the vegetable itself, while Jack-O-Lantern refers to the carved pumpkin. Lastly, the children designed their own Jack-O-Lantern by cutting eyes, nose, mouth and pasting onto their paper version of the pumpkin.
この秋というすばらしい季節に関連するたくさんのことについての学びの続きとして、子どもたちがもう一度じっくり観察できるように、2 つ目のカボチャを切り開きました。始めの解剖は子ども達の五感を使うアクティビティでしたが、今回は（先生が）かぼちゃを彫り、クラスの飾り物を作る目的でかぼちゃを開きました。かぼちゃは皮、種、果肉で構成されており、種から育てられることを子どもたちに思い出させます。子どもたちは、パンプキンと「ジャック・オー・ランタン」という言葉の違いを知りました。みんな、パンプキンは野菜自体を指し、ジャック・オー・ランタンは彫刻されたカボチャを指すことを認識しています！最後に、子ども達はクラフトで、黒い髪から目、鼻、口を切り取り、カボチャの紙バージョンに貼り付けて、独自のジャック・オー・ランタンをデザインしました。クラフトはクラスの外の壁に貼っていますので、是非ごらんください！
