We have a new theme and unit to explore – How We Organise Ourselves: Transportation. Our central idea revolves around how the different transport modes connect us in the community.

今週から、新しいUnitに入りました。テーマは、How We Organise Ourselves. Transportation(乗り物)です！セントラルアイディアは、様々な交通手段が地域社会において人々をどのようにつなぐかという点に焦点を当てています。

How did you get to school this morning? Did you walk to school? Why can’t you walk to school? Can you take a plane to school? Canyon had really interesting replies. Canyon: ISN too far. I will be tired. No, we cannot walk. I need to take the school bus. No, you cannot take a plane to school! You take a plane to go to another country! Good thinking, Canyon.

「今朝はどうやってスクールに来たの？」「あるいてきた？」「どうして歩いては来れないの？」飛行機でスクールに来ることはある？」キャニオンさん達は、こんな質問にとても興味を示しました！キャニオンさん達から出た答えは、「ISNはお家から遠くて歩けない！スクールバスで来るんだよ！えー、飛行機では来れないよ！飛行機はどこか外国に行くときに使うんだよ！」など、たくさんの声が。Good thinking, Canyon！！

These questions help trigger their prior knowledge about transportation. Other provocations include our gallery walk of books and toys. We create the buzz and excitement to get the students talking about the different vehicles we see on the roads, the sea and in the air. Canyon even pretended to be the different kinds of vehicles – police car, fire truck, trains and more!

こんな質問は、子ども達の現在持っている知識を探るのにとても良い方法です。そしてまた、本やおもちゃをテーブルに並べて、ギャラリーウォークもしました。子ども達からは、陸、海、空に見られる色々な種類の乗り物についての会話がたくさん聞こえてきました！また、クラスで段ボールで作った乗り物、（ポリスカー、消防車、電車など）に乗って楽しみました。

For our upcoming fieldtrip, Canyon was asked, “We want to go to a new park, but we cannot take a bus, and it is too far to walk. How can we get there?” Someone said in “a car”, another said “too small”. We can take a train! We practised holding onto our tickets and talked about the safety rules while taking a train ride. We have to stand behind the yellow line while we wait for the train to arrive. We have to be seated when we are riding on the train.

来週に予定しているField Tripは、JR松本駅から北松本駅のひと区間を電車で移動します。”We want to go to a new park, but we cannot take a bus, and it is too far to walk. How can we get there?”と先生に言われ、”a car”と言う子、 “too small”と続けて言う子。電車に乗るよ、と伝えると大喜び！電車切符を持つ練習をし、電車に乗る時の安全ルールについて話しました。電車を待つときには、黄色い線の内側に立つことや、電車に乗ったらシートにお座りすることなどを学びました。

Songs and video stories help students tune into the various concepts about transportation. We sang a fun transportation song… “I ride a bike, but I want to go faster!” When we got to the end of the song, guess what kind of transport is the fastest of them all?
