A brand new adventure awaits us. Canyon is really excited about our next unit – All About ANIMALS! The class was abuzz with questions and comments. What is this? What are you doing? Oh I know this!” We had an introduction session to the new theme – Sharing the Planet.

新しい探究の冒険の始まりです！キャニオンクラスでは、次のユニットを心待ちにしていました！みんな大好きな動物についてです。クラス内では、たくさんのなにこれ？！が飛び交いました。What is this? What are you doing? Oh I know this!”など、準備をしている先生を見ながら英語でたくさん質問をしていました。今週、新しいユニット、Sharing the Planet「地球の共有」の導入を子どもたちにしました。

In the IB curriculum, we are interested in student’s prior knowledge – what they already know. This informs the teachers about the student’s interests and prior knowledge. We will then plan our lines of inquiry. How can we reinforce your knowledge? What else can we inquire about? What are your interests? Before we started the new unit, Canyon was asked to pick an animal they like in the different habitats. Quite a number were interested in sea animals, and so the ocean habitat will be the first in our line of inquiry.

IBのカリキュラムでは、子どもたちの現時点での知識を探ります。今、どんなことを知っているのか？この、今現在子どもたちが有している知識を知ることは、我々先生にとってはとても重要なことです。どんなものに興味を抱いているのか、何を知っているのか。まずはそこに着目し、その上で今後のレッスンプランを立てていきます。どうすれば子どもたちの知識を定着できるか？他に子ども達はどんなことが調べられるか？興味は何？新しいユニットを始める前に、子ども達は様々な生息地の中から好きな動物を選びました。たくさんの子ども達が海の動物に興味を示したので、海の生息地が私たちの探究の始まりになりました。

This week, we have completed all 26 letters in our Alphabet Dance. We will continue to review each letter with the focus on letters in each student’s name. We also hunted for shapes around the classroom and completed a tracing worksheet on rectangles.

今週は、アルファベットダンスが最後の文字まで到達しました。今後もアルファベットを、子ども達の名前を使いながら一つ一つ丁寧に復習していきます。　

For this week’s Music lesson, Canyon practised their castanets and maracas along with some singing and dancing. In the schoolyard, we had fun in the pool. We checked on our tomato plants and watered them. We have been singing new songs for circle time. Please see the Youtube links below. (The class has been singing to the music only no video viewing.)
