This week we start on our brand new theme “Who We Are” and the unit on “Myself”. We will find out more about how each of us are special – how are we the same? how are we different?

今週はいよいよIBレッスン、Unit1が開始となりました。テーマは、Who We Are！です。このユニットでは、自分自身について学んでいきます。これからおよそ３カ月をかけて、自分はお友だちとどんなところが同じでどんなところが違っているの？と類似点や相違点に着目しながら自分たちは特別な存在であることを探求していきます。

Canyon has settled down well and doing some really good listening, and speaking! Canyon could introduce themselves by name one by one, loud and clear. The teacher started with “I am Ms. Serena”. Then with some prompting, each student said “I am…” Well-done! We read a book “My Great Body”, sang a song “One Little Finger” and learned the vocabulary for the parts of our body – finger, head, chin, arm, leg, foot. We counted our fingers and toes. We sang the ABC song and counted to 10 with the fish song too!

キャニオンクラスも大分落ち着いてきています！みんな先生の言うことをしっかり聞けるようになり、発言もし始めています。サークルタイムでは、一人一人が自分のお名前を大きな声ではっきりと言ってみました。まず、先生が、”I am Ms. Serena”とお手本を見せました。それに続けてみんなも大きな声でお名前を英語のセンテンスで言ってみました。みんなよくできました！それから、”My Great Body”という本も読みました。”One Little Finger”というお歌では、身体の名前を英語で学びました。指finger, 頭head, あごchin, 腕arm, 脚（全体）leg, 足（足首から下）footなどが含まれているお歌です。手と足の指もみんなで数えてみました！ABCソングや１－１０までの数字のお歌もクラスで歌っています！

We had an Easter Egg Hunt and searched for matching ‘eggs’ in the classroom. We matched for the same colours and patterns. We tried saying the colours and used the words ‘same’ and ‘different’… “This is pink and pink too. They are the SAME!” These words will be important in our inquiries about Myself.

イースターエッグハントをして楽しみました。クラスの中に半分のたまごを隠し、同じ色やパターン同士を見つけて合わせてみるというゲームです。同じEggが見つかると”Same！”、違うEggの場合は”Different！”と発話しながらゲームをしました。「これとこれはピンクで同じ。だからSAMEだ！」と都度確認をしながら楽しみました。このワードは、今後のMyselfの探究にとても大切なワードとなります。

We had our very first disaster evacuation drill – Earthquake Drill. The emergency alarm on campus went off. All students in Canyon went under the tables in class and they listened so well to instructions. Nobody cried, panicked or dashed about… impressive! Teachers reviewed evacuation instructions with picture cards for:

Osanai 押さない Do not push

Hashiranai 走らない Do not run

Shaberanai しゃべらないで Do not talk

Modoranai 戻らない Do not return

今週は今年度初めてとなる、地震を想定した避難訓練を行いました。９：４０に園内にアラームが鳴り響きました。先生の言うことをきちんと聞いて、みんなすぐにテーブルの下に潜り込みました。誰も泣かずに、パニックにもならず、避難することができました。そのあと、先生が避難の時に大切なお約束、お、は、し、も、を絵カードで一つずつ説明してくれました。

We decorated the classroom with spring flowers, butterflies and bees that we coloured in. We had some fun in the sun too. Outdoor play in the park and schoolyard where we discovered ladybugs and dandelions blooming! Till next week, have a fabulous cherry blossoms weekend.

クラスの中をデコレーションしました。春のお花や蝶々、ハチさんなどに色を付け、先生が切り抜いたものをクラスの壁にみんなで貼りました。戸外にも出かけました。公園や園庭では、テントウ虫を見つけたりタンポポを見つけたりしました。今週末はまだお花見が楽しめそうですね。良い週末をお過ごしください！
