The Savanna class had an exciting and meaningful first week of school as students settled into their new environment, met their new teachers and friends, and began building routines. They started by unpacking their belongings and learning how to keep their lockers neat and organized. Students also practiced what to do before, during, and after lunch, helping them understand daily expectations and develop independence. To become more familiar with their surroundings, the class went on a tour of the second floor where their classroom is located. During the tour, students learned important do’s and don’ts, as well as how to stay safe while moving around the school.

今週サバンナさん達は、新しい環境に慣れ、新しい先生やお友達と出会い、生活の流れを作り始める中で、ワクワクしながら充実した1週間を過ごしました。

子ども達はまず、カバン、ジャケット、お絵かきの道具などの自分の持ち物をロッカーに入れ、きれいに整理整頓する方法を学びました。また、ランチの前・最中・後にどのように過ごすかを練習し、毎日の生活の流れを理解するとともに、自立する力を育んでいます。

さらに、自分たちの教室がある2階に慣れるため、フロアツアーにも出かけました。ツアーでは、2階にあるミュージックルーム、Rainforestクラス、学童の部屋、非常口、トイレなどを見て回り、それぞれ守るべきルールやしてはいけないことについて話しました。初めて入るお部屋などあり、わくわくした様子の子ども達！ですが、建物の2階で安全に楽しく過ごすため、お約束をしっかり守っていきたいと思います。

We also learned what a Savanna is. Ms. Fronie showed various pictures of animals that live in the Savanna, and students tried to guess where each animal belongs. Someone said, “It’s the Savanna!” Then we described what a Savanna is: a big open land with lots of grass and a few trees.

The class also welcomed a new friend who joined on Tuesday. Everyone was very happy and showed kindness and care by helping her learn what to do and play alongside her. Their support helped her feel comfortable and included in the classroom community.

In the classroom, students worked together to create their essential agreements by sharing ideas on how to keep everyone happy and safe. Students formed groups based on their favorite colors—green, blue, orange, or purple—and collaborated to share their ideas. They showed their commitment by adding their fingerprints and names as a promise to follow these agreements.

また、Savanna（サバンナ）とは何かについても学びました。Ms. Fronieがサバンナに生息するさまざまな動物の写真を見せると、子どもたちはそれぞれの動物がどこに住んでいるのかを考えました。ある子が「サバンナだ！」と気づき、その後、サバンナとは「広く開けた草原で、草が多く、木が少しだけ生えている場所」であることをみんなで確認しました。

また、火曜日には新しいお友達がクラスに加わりました。みんなとても喜んで、優しさや思いやりをもって関わりながら、やることを教えたり一緒に遊んだりしていました。そのような関わりによって、新しいお友達も安心してクラスの一員として過ごすことができました。

クラスでは、みんなが安心して楽しく過ごすための「エッセンシャル・アグリーメント（大切な約束）」作りにも取り組みました。子どもたちは、緑・青・オレンジ・紫の好きな色ごとにグループに分かれ、どんなことをしたら、みんなが楽しく安全にすごせるかを考えました。子ども達は、Be caring to frinds and teachers.　Share toys！Finish food！Walk nicely．などたくさんのお約束を教えてくれました。それらの約束を守るという気持ちを込めて、自分の指紋と名前を加えました。

During their music lesson, students used the pianica for the first time. They learned how to position their hands by making a peace sign to find the two black keys and used their thumb to play the “Do” note. Students were excited and proud when they successfully produced their first sound.

ミュージックレッスンでは、子どもたちは初めて鍵盤ハーモニカ（ピアニカ）を使いました。ピースサインを作って黒鍵2つの位置を見つけ、親指を使って「ド」の音を弾く方法を学びました。初めて音を出すことができたとき、子どもたちはとても嬉しそうで、誇らしげな様子でした。

To celebrate the season, Ms. Shizuka read a story about spring. Inspired by the story, students created nature bags using ziplock bags and decorated them with colorful drawings of flowers, hearts, grass, and more. This activity allowed them to express their creativity while appreciating the beauty of spring. The class also enjoyed a walk outside, where they practiced walking safely along the road. They visited a nearby shrine, admired the beautiful cherry blossom trees, and took photos, making the experience both fun and memorable.

季節を感じる活動として、Ms. Shizukaが春に関する絵本の読み聞かせをしました。そのお話にインスピレーションを受け、子どもたちはジップロックバッグを使ってネイチャーバッグを作り、花やハート、草などをカラフルに描いて飾りました。この活動を通して、春の美しさを感じながら、創造力を表現することができました。

また、クラスで外に出て散歩も楽しみました。道路を安全に歩く練習をしながら、近くの神社を訪れ、きれいに咲いた桜を眺めたり、写真を撮ったりしました。楽しく、思い出に残るひとときとなりました。

Overall, it was a fantastic first week filled with learning, creativity, and kindness, as the Savanna class began their journey together.

Savannaクラスにとっては、学びや創造性、そして思いやりにあふれた素晴らしいスタートの1週間となり、みんなでの新しい歩みが始まりました。
